Lets face it. ALOT of people buy fish that they do not intend to properly house for life. Some are aware of the potential size of the fish and some are not at the time of the purchase. This is usually seen with readily avaliable fish that are commonly sold at small sizes (ex. Red Tail Catfish, Pacu, Oscars etc.). People buy them when they are cute little babies in a pet/fish store but these little guys grow up to be MASSIVE. and sure. Most people can house a red tail catfish until it is 6-12 inches but then what? even if you have tons of money you still can not just go out to any pet/fish store and buy a proper size tank for a fish like this. fish like red tail catfish need multi thousands of gallons to themselves. "tanks" of that size are not commonly manufactured. So, now you have this 10 inch fish that is growing at an alarming rate and by the time you can BUILD it a large enough tank the fish will have completely outgrown the tank it is in! and be harmed/stunted! and building tanks can cost a lot of money to! So if you are one of these people, this is for you! Here are some cheap, easy and QUICK solutions to give your large growing fish a temporary home!

TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS:

1). "THE GHETTO POND"

simply use a blow up kiddie pool as a "pond". kiddie pools can be found for as little as 10$. Just make sure you fish can not jump out! (it must be an inside pond as most tropical species of fish can not tolerate outdoor temperatures.)

PERMANENT SOLUTIONS:

1). "THE NICE INDOOR POND"

Get the thing commonly known as a "stock tank". you can find them at tractor supply and other places similar to that. they are a bit pricy but are really nice and certainly cheaper then getting a custom giant tank.

2). "THE CHEAP MONSTER TANK"

Build your own "plywood aquarium". Look up a tutorial on youtube. It is very cheap and you can make it any size you want. the only downside is there is only 1 viewing window.

GUYS:
Feel free to leave your suggestions and solutions below... Hopefully this thread will help some people! :D

Did you write this? What is it for? I would hope people on MFK already know these solutions, nothing new here. And not sure I would use an inflatable kiddie pool for fish.

A fish should never outgrow it's enclosure as if you're a responsible fishkeeper you're either prepared for their growth as you've researched them or are willing to rehome them to someone who has the proper sized aquarium even if it's at a loss to you before they get too big.

Didn't take long for the "holier than thou" posts to begin.

And what exactly are you contributing? If someone is a member of a community called monster fish keepers, they should already know these options for keeping monster fish which is what I was pointing out. If you are a member of this community, you should also know the potential size and growth rate of your fish and choose their housing accordingly which is what koltsixx was saying. And if you have the diy skills to build a plywood aquarium you could certainly put in more than one window as gill blue said.

His whole post is weird and amateurish which would lead one to the conclusion that he's either trolling or looking to increase post count. I think his pink name could tip you off to that.

If this were true then the thread count would be cut in half as all "What's the minimum tank size for" and "How long before I need to upgrade" threads would not have been necessary. Some people who seem to think they know everything seem to usually forget that once they knew nothing and too many who know nothing act like they are world experts. Perhaps adding something useful instead of being insulting would be more useful.

For the pool, a hardside kiddie pool might work better or an Intex type with just a blowup top ring for less chance of disaster. Not a guarantee but better.

You're implying nobody could find this thread via a Google search, having not been a part of this community. You're also implying that new people don't join the forum on a daily basis.

Lots of people don't know this simple information and it could be useful to some. Your attack on the OP is of use to nobody.

Also, lots of people use those little above ground pools for monster fish.
