I am an example in counterpoint to the argument of weak mindedness being the cause of anxiety disorders and the use of mood stabilizing drugs to treat it.

I have problems with anxiety sometimes that has to be addressed by non mood stabilizing drugs (i.e. valium, prozac, wellbutrin), which indicates that mental conditions aren't always caused by weak mindedness but actual physiological deficiencies and must be treated with medication.

My anxiety/depression is only one symptom of many from being hypothyroid and the drug I take to unspecifically treat anxiety/depression is the thyroid hormone synthroid.

I voted less attractive but only if comparing the same person with and without anxiety. One person with anxiety could still be more attractive than another without anxiety so I guess I should've voted that it depends on the case.

Thank you for sharing, is the above statement always true thou?

How does one know whether or not ones anxiety is based on mental or a chemical deficiencies/imbalance? Is there a test? Or are these all just unproven theories people have and come to conclude based on their personal research?

As far as hypothyroidism is concerned yes its always true and it is a common disease so there are thousands upon thousands of cases all exhibiting the same spectrum of symptoms and reactions to treatment.

Chemical deficiencies and imbalances can be detected by blood tests, in some cases mental problems can be detected by MRI which would show patterns of abnormal neural activity.

Mental health issues can even be carried on through genetics and its not always a case of the kids being raised badly by parents with mental problems. Individuals, with a family history of serious mental health issues, that were adopted as infants are even still at risk of having the same issues.

Be careful abusing benzo's buddy. They're just starting to uncover the damage they do to the brain - but it's pretty extensive and starting to prove to be a lot more severe than the physical damage narcotics do to folks.

well if your dating a person its not really important to say i eat valium like candy....

seriously i see no problem with it... wouldnt bother me if i was dating somebody who took them prob ask for one to calm me down LOL...

now if a person was taking anti psychotic meds i would see a red flag and leave... but anxiety meds is no problem... like i said everybody should be made to take one every day...

I'm sorry, but I believe that the proper spelling is QUOTATION. :grinno:

I say to (too) many factors to make a judgement call. I am not the type of person who is quick to come to a conclusion on a person. I can understand and relate with a person who is on this type of medication. Honestly to me it has nothing to do with attraction.

If the person has serious anxiety it can affect their well being. So taking a medication is simply saying they have the means to help themself. nothing wrong with it.
Im this case theres nothing unattractive. If you are making a judgment call based on something suprficial like this, you are likely missing out on the facts that make the person interesting, that is unattractive!

Medication addiction and abuse is another story..

Interesting conversation people...

Initially I found it to be VERY unattractive but now my thoughts are that it depends on the circumstances. Depends on the severity of the anxiety, the cause of the anxiety, how it effects ones life and whether or not its a chemical imbalance versus a psychological issue.
