Ok tell me this why 14 years ago did we get ours for $50 at 4". While I agree this fish is not worth the asking price the fish is now extremely rare in the hobby and he is selling it for what people will pay and I will certainly pay him $400 for it. Ours is still alive and kickin but ours does not have any red at all on him he is just straight yellow and green.
cross, are you yet to decide if you are buying him yet?

That is a fair price for a large male Beani especially that variant. It is almost impossible to find that variant anymore due to tilapia invasion and contamination in Rio Tepic. Please do some research before posting comments like "the fish does not worth that much".

Rio Tepics are very rare compared to your regular Mexican Beani. Aren't Rio Tepics scientific name different than the Northern Beani? I think they label them as Nandopsis Beani rather than Cichlasoma. Mine looks sort of Rio Tepic but mine doesn't have the individual red dots on each scale he has green dots and yellow background.

Both variants are extremely rare in the hobby.

The variant from Rio Presidio has greenish base color and the variant from Rio Tepic is more white and glossy. I had both at one time. Unfortunately, I lost the Rio Tepic one due to medication.

Post some pictures of yours.

Simple supply and demand folks.Same reason gold has ANY value..........it's rarity.Guaranteed when you see the last specimens of a certain species then youll see VERY $high numbers$.There will always be someone willing to collect and sell.I see us exhausting a species in my lifetime............

I doubt you'll get him down in price.. You'll probably have alot of big shots contimplating getting that fish that will be more than merrier to shell out the measly $500.00 to get it. But I wish you luck. Lord knows it would nice to have someone here on MFK have it and then we could get pics.

As far as value of course it's not worth $500.00 for those people who $500.00 is alot of money or to those who aren't specifically seeking beani. There are too many variants in individuals preferences for someone to say "It ain't worth it" and put any merit in that just because a few people said it. He wouldn't have listed it at $500.00 if he didn't think it would sell for that. :D

well put, balton... what's with the hostility anyways, havey?:screwy:
it's all about perceived value. yes, beani are rare fish, but heck who has that kind of loose change lying around anyways? not too many people i think. OF COURSE someone is going to pick this thing up eventually... but till then... that's a steep price anyway you look at things

Well put? Aw, Ok. He then says he sold a festae for $400 but didn't see the value in a Beani. He apparently has the loose change if he's if pulling $400 for a festae. Well put.

I would say eventually may be fairly quickly. I believe he probably has a pair and I heard Rusty Wessel may also. The price could come down if their are some spawnings.

Didn't CichlidScene's Umbee sell for like $5000? That Beani is sweet, and $500 seems reasonable. It'll probably sell very fast.
