It's funny how all the super rare species of cichla (and any fish for that matter) always end up in Asia and Europe. The fish follow the money. With the right connections down south, and the right connections for an importer, you could get them.

Another point often overlooked is that both the Japanese and Germans actually own and operate collecting stations in SA. The Americans rely on others to collect the fish for them.

u know what. we should try an setup an expidition, a trip to where some rare pbass can be found. what ever mfk member wanna go and or mfk members live near where we wanna go. make it a mfk chicla hunt. maybe have an importer local join the trip. bring the familys. make it all out vaction for the year. of course we all will need to have time to save up an plan out details an laws an all that, but it could be fun. no better way to get the chicla u want then to go there an get it lol. i know my family would love a vacation. have always wanted to travel lol. shoot thats one sell point the marines sold me on in high school. lol travel. well i got to travel to iraq an back lol. i wanna go somewhere beautful

i couldnt agree more. i have looked around lately for trips like that and i found one that shark aquarium a LFS in new jersey does. i contacted them and they dont catch to many cichla. if we were to go on a trip for just cichla i believe you would have to find some good contacts in south america. it can be done though and it would be a amazing trip to a beautiful place.

If a collecting trip for cichla ever came about I would be there!
Great idea, now how do we make it happen?
