Sorry to hear....but where did you get them from?? I seem to remember that eczs mentioned xinguensis a little while ago but don't know if they came through.

Lee Newman in BC Canada was breeding them about 3 years ago. He sent a number of fry to a wholesaler in Washington state who then shipped them to me. Sadly, the heater in my tank crapped out and before I realized it the temp had plummeted to the mid 50's... not a good temp for tropical Amazonian fish. :(

Lee has since sold the breeders to another party in Canada and I have heard nothing more about them. Given their delicate nature I don't have much hope that they are still around.

Do you mean the Red Hump Eartheater? because these guys are more common than convicts in the UK :P lol

No silly, that would be G (for Geophagus) steindachneri :p

Herichthys steindachneri I believe is the largest growing Herichthys species with a nice yellowish hue. Maybe one of the vendors will check out this thread and get some in. :D

With Steindachneri they are very rare even in the wild. Even some of the ones caught in the wild turn out to be hybrids. Doubt we'll be seeing them in any kind of numbers any time soon. Would be nice though!

that's also true of the Media Luna yellow labridens (the wild hybridization) and they're in the hobby. So there is hope. :)
