Ray breathing issues- Labored breathing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have always wondered if tons of bubble discs/ water splashing at the surface could cause extra stress to an already stressed ray (especially if they are little crybabies) I mean all that noise has got to be annoying right? Just a though I'm not saying that it is or isn't, it is just a question that has crossed my mind.

lol, I try to make them tough it out also but this male of mine will stop eating for over a month and I'll take it out once the hip bones are showing.
I think your doing the right thing just need some time and when it starts to eat a little for awhile re-introduce it back in with the other rays.

i would prob do the same if i had a ray go that long w out eating

ive never had a ray get that bad except a few parasite probs in the past.

ive also learned that moving rays from tank to tank can be pretty stressful so i try not 2 unless its a must...

I really hope a drip will help, I can't deal with the way things are now. No balance and things are falling apart..... In my case of man vs rays the rays are winning.....lol.

In the famous words of Dr. Gonzo..... "You took too much man. Too much, too much." (wayyy too many rays)

oh no I agree, I would do it, and I have done it. But I have just wondered if the extra noise could add to the stress. Just a question, not advice really.

think of the rivers in the amazon... water flowing over rocks... ripping currents in rainy season... much more noise than those air pumps can make...

your water is crap huh? your on a well right? i would get some really good carbon on the tank to help keep water extra pristine... warm tank nice a dark and drop salt down to 1# per hundred.. no more binox either ;)

I was hesitant to even post anything but this ray is worth making a post for. She's one of my very favorites and the fact that she looks fine but refuses food, and is breathing just stupid hard despite LOTS of O2 has me really worried.

Dont let pride kill your ray. Even thou some people can be negative and burnt out around here, EVERYBODY should feel like they can post and ask anything on MFK especially here in the ray forum!

Highly unlikely to cause stress....

My water might not be crap but it's far from perfect.... I can't take a Nitrate reading cause the chart doesn't go that high. I'm doing 50% WCs daily and can't keep them in check. BUT I can admit that. I don't get what mine ARE and what they SHOULD be confused like I think a LOT of raykeepers do...... :nilly:

I'm out of Binox allrady, so no more. No I'm not on well water. I'm on city water..... Just got done with tests last night, and it's not quite as bad a s I thought. NO cloramine, and the city water dept claims they never have and never will use chloramine. I'll be installing the carbon filters on my water main tonight and begin drip, drip, dripping all my problems away..... Hopefully.....

Oh definitely. But for captive bred rays that are kept in mostly quite conditions all of their life i would think the change would be enough to possibly annoy them. Not enough to kill em though:grinno:
