carbon in the filter... 2 little fishes activated carbon has always been good to me to keep water extra clean.... or chemi pure... you got nitrates coming out of the tap? i would use a chemical remover for a day or 2.... if they are well above the 200 ppm range ive seen that cause stress...

Can't suggest anything other than what has been said, but hope everything swings the
other way for you once the drip is up and running.

Just a few PPM out of tap. Definetly less then 5. I think my aquarium test kit is "F"ed. The Culligan water kit I got yesterday has tap at a few PPM. The aquarium test kit shows like 15. Anything over 40 and up to 200 is red.

Don't know how Nitrate can be that high. I've been feeding light the last week. Daily 50% WCs. The mechanical media is changed 2-3 times a week. System is around 800 gallons.

Can you elaborate on chemical remover? Chemical Nitrate remover?

I think I need to go get a new test kit. The one I've been using (which is hardly ever) pre dates me finding MFK.

How bout plants for these Nitrates? Pothos? Any other suggestions?

throw that kit and any idea of buying a new one out the window....

yes a chemical nitrate remover... i forget its name...

plants would work... get a strong light(t5ho) and grow hyacynth... anacharis(eloda) and water lettuce are my favs for nitrates... hyacynth is the best... just needs lots of light

You're probobly right. IF anyone asks I know what the proper answer is for parameters... 0 0 0-5.

I'm just going to flush the pond.... Get the drip done and just let it run.

You suppose cheap ol flourescent grow lights in a basement would get the job done?

The plants are are great idea and most plants will do good under the cheap old grow lights. The chemical nitrate remover I tried was a pain in the ass, as it had to be recharged to often. I'm thinking your test kit is off. Once you get your drip system up you shall never have nirate problems again.

sorry to hear man, hope she gets better, now that she is off the main tank, make sure you don't feed that tank smelt, i wounder if part of your problems are due to the oil that is introduced into the tanks. Hope she turns around.

i doubt the hyacynth will grow under the reg ol lights... but water lettuce will and so will eloda
