it all depends on the size of the rays too... im planning on having 6 or 7 adults in a 8 x 4 footprint, but they r gonna be packed and my filtration is overkill. a 900 u could deff do around 10 rays.

i buy smelt in large boxes, which only turns into a couple hundred $ a year in food.

heating in the winter is whats gonna kill your wallet :irked:

I think you right man, heating for 10x4 in the cold and long winter will gonna cost his wallet.. lucky my country just got monsoon season :grinno: but always looking at the bright side when the female get prego :D :D :D

ok. thanks for the replies everyone. makes me feel a little bit better about feeding costs. would you recommend a sump filtration or a large wet/dry system? i would need something that would as quiet as possible. on my current tank, my heater runs just as much as it did in the dead of winter and its starting to warm up here. i will probably buy food in bulk as well, maybe tilapia filets, but just the fact that when i go to the grocer a bag of raw shrimp is scary expensive.

i might be planning on adding some things to the property to help dumb down the costs of the electric bill, maybe a fe solar panels and/or a windmill with a generator.

If you are getting babies, they would look kinda lost in such a huge tank. But if you were getting adults, remember that they can breed, and you may want to keep the nicest pup.

At 2 batches a year, your tank could fill up pretty soon.

I would go for 10 inch 2 males and 3 12 inch females for the best quality of the breed you like.

a wind generator and or solor pannels that would actually make a difference would cost as much as the tank.... ive been looking into both for months...

but they would both be worth the money.

did you even get a price on that tank yet? acyrlic 900 gallon if i had to guess be close to 10gs then a steal stand needs to be build (i wouldnt use wood) then pumps plumbing heaters etc..

judging from price quotes on other tanks ive inquired about, im gonna guess that a 900 acrylic will cost about 15-20k for the total package.

i chose the tank mainly for its aesthetic purposes or viewing of the rays. an indoor pond is still an option though. but i would be tempted to fill it to the brim with rays, or at least fully stock it.
