3 of the Motoros I bought were living in a tank the size of yours, but the tank was taller. It was part of why they were sold. It took them about 2 years to get to 18", 16" (females) and 13" (male), and they were breeding in that tank. He had a great water system, but they were just really cramped for space. Other than physical size, you'll know when they've outgrown their space when you can't keep up with the maintenance.
I may not always be able to "buy" one back, but that isn't the point. Trading is trading...there is always a fair way to make it work.
You could keep one for it's first year in that tank no problem. Maybe longer.
