Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
3 of the Motoros I bought were living in a tank the size of yours, but the tank was taller. It was part of why they were sold. It took them about 2 years to get to 18", 16" (females) and 13" (male), and they were breeding in that tank. He had a great water system, but they were just really cramped for space. Other than physical size, you'll know when they've outgrown their space when you can't keep up with the maintenance.

I may not always be able to "buy" one back, but that isn't the point. Trading is trading...there is always a fair way to make it work.

You could keep one for it's first year in that tank no problem. Maybe longer.

Nice idea/ rays :D

BTW do you have a back-up generator?
I don't know too much about rays but it seems like with all that money tied into it you wouldn't want to lose them all because of a 2 or 3 day power outage...

No backup generator yet...but There is goiong to be a lot of surface area on the water per fish, and I got a few different hand-crank mixers and Hydrogen Peroxide, and a few other tricks...But you're right...It's on the list of things before I can really stock up.

The first Tilapia species showed up today!

I don't expect this amount of them to start breeding in this 75 gallon QT tank, but I thought I'd decorate it anyways just for practice. Reality is... I only know what I've read about these guys.

Once I sort them out, they'll move into a 150 gallon that I will divide up as needed to get them going.

nice rays! good luck with the fish farm dream, if u get it going every one on mfk will be jealous :grinno: you said u were gona breed the talapia as feeders right?

Theres some things that I very firmly beleive in. Among those-

When there's a will, there's a way.

Adapt and conquer.

The process of natural selection.

These are all reasons why I am heating this tank for tomorrow's White Nile Tilapia shipment in this way since the heaters that I thought would be here today won't be here till tomorrow. And ALSO, the reason why I will not be putting my hand in the water this evening.

As a race-car driver, they call me "Mad-Mike". Can't figure out why...

 :headbang2

Yes! Why should the LFS stock diseased Goldfish if I can supply these clean fish for a fair enough price.

Same for everyone here... Clean fish, at the best possible price I can afford to produce them at.
