This is awesome! Great read and awesome pics with awesome fish! Wish you the best! I wish someone would do this in Australia and make rays a whole lot cheaper and easier to get. Keep it up, more pics!!!

Damn Mike, I just read most of 1-85 tonight, probably took 2-3 hours...worth it! Seeing Tilapia in clean water and being taken care of like some ones prized cichlids is awesome. They definitly deserve more credit as tank worthy fish then they diserve. A quick question, do you aquire greater profit from your rays having pups...or from tilapia fry, or something else?

These are domestic bred Monos. The parents are awesome and the breeder has some really stellar pairs of other Bass that he's waiting on. I won't be keeping all of these Bass, so anyone who would be interested in some, send a PM.

As for profit...The Tilapia are supporting me right now(ok, well my WIFE is supporting me more-so)...I have gone through some water quality issues with the rays that slowed their breeding, so they are just getting back to being interested in each other.

The Rays I think are turning more into a passion and hobby... Not to say I won't continue to expand the Ray breeding project, however I am more and more focused on the Tilapia right now. I am trying to learn more about assembling breeding groups of these fish and it's been a real challenge to get good productive groups together. It's working...but it's frustrating.

Wow...not sure how this happened, but I found no entrance wound in the belly. That doesn't mean there wasn't one, I just couldn't see it without getting her on her back which would be difficult. I reached all the way into her spiracle to try and get to the big end of this barb and could not find a way, so I went ahead and yanked it through the top. The only other option I think was to cut it off and leave it...that didn't seem good.

So far, she is back in the pond doing fine. It's seems bad that water is squirting in and out of the hole as she breathes, but I'm thinking she'll heal up good as new.

What a way to spend half my day worrying though....

well things just wont leave me alone...I pulled the barb out, (she's still fine) and next morniong I found one of my Leo males dead...this guy was never real strong, but I have no idea what happened...and later on the same day the large pond has started to leak at about 100g per hour and I can't keep it full...looks like I fould a litte construction error that allowed the flor of the pond to shift...

So I've ordered more pond-coat (rubber coat), but this is going to be a week long repair, and I'm worried about the over-crowding situation...looks like I'm going to be on daily WC schedule and power-outtage alert for a while.

This sucks.

Glad to see you're still updating this and sorry to hear of the band news. I hope you got the leak fixed and your rays and fish are all doing well. Good luck!

Leak is fixed now and everything is going great.

I'm not sure where I left off, things have been a bit hecktic. I did lose both of my male Leos during all of this and the ray project took a big setback. I now don't have any black rays...

More later... Things are getting better.
