Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hahah i was just thinking about cryogenicly freezing feeders and then shipping them that way lol nice worm box they look like the might be a bit messy though, im gona try and breed mealworms:headbang2

I have heard that frozen lake-fish like blugill and other ice-fishing species will come back to life if frozen, but I havn't seen it myself. The Tilapia might not be the best to try it with...but who knows!

Did you say mealworms???

hahah u beat me to it! im also trying to set up a breeding facility type thing lol once i get the $$$$ im gona breed cons, feed them melies, and feed cons to my bass =D and use mealies as bait and save some bills:naughty: im not sure if fish will come back from the freeze lol i have a few frozen fish and theyre rock solid and im not sure but they apear to be dead lol

Thanks! they were given to us...and it really became an issue of either going into town constantly, or keeping our own mealworms. I got a start on them, but not enough to be self-sufficient yet. Crickets stink...and they seem to die easily. So I still gotta go there every couple of days...for now. But I got hooked up with a 50# bag of bran now, so next round of beetles I'm going to go a little bigger. And maybe enough to sell someday...

And beat you? I don't want any competition...we can just be part of a "distribution network" ;)

Us little guys got to stick together!

What you are doing with your ray tanks sounds fascinating. I have long wanted to take on making that dream come true (having two of my own rays) and while having the means, am still working on the best way to make it happen. You have this all down and it sounds great. Good luck!

lol i ment that u beat me to the mealworm set up no competition in mind :D
but yea deffintetly sell them once u get a surplus because as an angler, i know how effective those lil bugs are for trout and panfish and its fun to fish with them so i know for a fact that fishermen would buy them from you ahha u could start a talapia/meal worm enterprise!!!!!!!:grinno:

Oh boy.... If I had this 'down', I wouldn't need everyone's help!

Fact is, I don't have the means...Just determination to not have to go through what I've gone through in the last 20 years of working for "the man".

This is truely my "one shot". And I need allies, friends, partners, investors, idea donors, and just pretty much anything I can feed off of to maintain the energy to keep going. I don't want to go into debt to a bank... but the expansion of genetic potential through a network or partnership of other ray-keepers is something that could help us all.
