rays stingers

You must respect your animals you keep... if your afraid then you donn respect them.. don modify gods creation for you own fear... you dont take the fangs out of a snake do ya?

People actually have the venom glands surgically removed from venomous snakes. This is cruel and poor practice. I have kept dangerous snakes that would be more than 100 times as dangerous as any ray. I would never have thought of doing this mutilation to my snakes.

If you can't keep a ray responsibly than my recommendation is to get a hamster. But watch out that can bit. So I guess you would want to remove there teeth them? Wait I got it... go with a pet rock, that should be safe enough for you.

what is a cat without claws? or a dog without teeth? or an Emergency Room without a careless rays keeper?
:)

But I agree with NOT cutting off tails or doing damage to a ray.
The flip side is there is a 'correct' way to trim a barb back (for say - a touch pool). However, snapping it off or pulling it out isn't the right way of going about doing it.

You cannot post a thread like this and ask not to be flamed, you are talking about mutilation.

If you did anything like this to a human you would be tried for torture, do it to a dog and you would face penalties.

If you need to ask this question then you do not know enough to keep this fish and if you consider it then you are cruel. Do not do it.

I hope that you think about this next time you have a tooth ache, get some pliers and pull your own teeth out....please!

the pet rock might fall off his shelf and hit him in the head. still too dangerous. :P

Plastic surgeons get paid a lot. Some dogs get their tails docked too.

Ive even heard of circumcising babies being a common practice too. :WHOA:

All human beings modify gods creation, from the earths' landscape to our body canvass made in his image. From shaving, clipping nails, tattoos, cutting hair and covering up, no one goes all natural.

If they have bred aggression out of most pets and domesticated animals, I don't see why they cant modify a ray without a sting for the aquarist. A near cousin of the Stingray the Skates seem to do perfectly fine without a stinger. Too bad they don't live in freshwater.

The fact is human beings screw with whats natural as a way of life.

Plastic surgery is a personal choice. Most dog tail dockings are for their dog's benefits and safety. Circumcision is a common sanitary procedure. Mutilating your ray provides no benefit to your ray at all. This has nothing to do with being natural or not.

wait.. so because humans are stupid and mess with nature means it is ok to say.. hell with it and make them less dangerous to us... bottom line is... if your not responsible enough to keep a ray and pay attention to the stinger then DONT KEEP ONE... and skates....hello....not human altered... natural fact of life... and people like you who think it is ok to alter them for your benifit... and i completely agree with the plastic surgery... ITS AN OPTION... go ahead and put your face into my tank and ask my rays if you can cut off their tail.... but dont come up until they answer you ok...

the difference is that cutting our hair or clipping our nails doesn't cause us pain ( unless we aren't paying attention). we're also doing it to ourselves. the rays don't get that decision, we make it for them. would you want someone cutting off a finger or two because "you don't need all four to do stuff"? didn't think so.
