That might be a tad strong, if it's multi-directional you can make it so that the current is mainly focused up towards the surface. Which brings another good point you'll need to find some way to keep the oxygen level pretty high, p's fare better when there is a lot of dissolved oxygen in the water.

Ill figure something put when the time comes. This was just going to be a show tank by the way.

some strange advice on here.

30 bucks for 2 inch red bellies is a terrible price. Order them on-line if that's the best deal in your area. i paid 5.25 each for mine about the size of a quarter. 6 inchs ones at the same store cost 20 bucks. online you can get great deals for a dozen. maybe you can trade the ones you don't need to the fish store for credit

6 in a 65 is terrible advice too as they'll already be 6-7 inches within the first year. That tank is too small.

There's a couple of threads with alot of pics of planted piranha tanks

if you get live plants they will get destroyed. My dads plastic plants get eaten lol.
My daughters RPB tank has live plants and so far the fish have not bothered them at all. Could change when they get bigger, time will tell. Also in larger groups you can order them, including shipping cost, for less than $30. Might find a friend that wants to split an order.

FYI, I did say he'd need to upgrade that to an 100g, I only failed to mention what you just did; that they'd need it fast. Not looking for bs, just saying.

I just recently bought four RBP's for 10.49 each at my LFS. They started out at about the size of a qaurter but now, 3 weeks later, two of them are almost 3" and the other two almost 2". The normal adult size is 10-14"in captivity and grow at about the rate of 1"/month until about 6-7" then as slow as 1"/year. So getting them small doesn't really matter as they grow very fast as juveniles.

I hope this helps,
Steve

Using that logic, keep in mind he will have to cull a few; 5-6 might not be fine for that tank, but 3 is & when it comes to piranhas always start with more than you intend to keep.
