RBP's lost color.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since nobody bothered to mention it. It's normal for mature rbp to lose all or most of the red in the belly. Usually its only red bottom fins.

Huh I don't know where I got that these were older fish lol. Moving fish can cause color loss as can wc or even moods or sleeping.

Thanks for all the info guys. The redness is back to normal again. Must have been that first night home. I've had them for a couple days and they have eaten a little but not much. I got shrimp, freeze dried shrimp, (which was a waste of money since they float and end up stuck against the fx5 hoses eventually from the current. I also have frozen bloodworms which they seem to like, but they are very messy and eventually there is little
tiny worms floating around all over. I heard fresh raw shrimp were very good for piranhas? How will it kill them?

Good to hear that they are getting acclimated to they'er new tank , what size is the tank ? And as far as diet , a good well rounded diet with moderatition kept in mind, nothing in excess , they will do well ! Try cutting up ( smelt, chicken breast, beef, pork ) into 1/8 to 1/4 strips by a couple inches long , big enough to fit into there mouth and eat the whole thing , your bound to find something they like ! :)

I bought some small frozen beef heart cubes. Wow bad idea... They went after it right away but it made a HUGE mess. Once that stuff hits water it seems like it dissolves in a millions pieces. I don't like that.. I know they are dirty fish but I don't need their food to be all messy and floating everywhere in tiny pieces too small to eat even. I shrimp chunks I've been putting in ate nice and clean and don't break apart all over. But someone mentioned too much shrimp is bad?

Try cut up tilapia fillet. I rotate it in all my large cichlids diets and im sure your rbp will love it.

Ill give that a try this weekend. Is there a vitamin solution you dip it in or just fed them raw. Ive read some people use Kent Zoe or something. But I can't find that anywhere.

You could soak it in vitachem, havent tried it yet but have heard good things. You could also stuff the cut fish strips with NLS pellets to help them accept pellets if they dont yet.
