And this has nothing to do with Rich's thread, and the idjit that started that sheet show is now banned.

His comments remind me of my vulture cat. I asked them tons of questions got allot of great input, pros and cons. No one chastised me for trying it. Continued to give good advice along the way. But in the end i learned something for myself that probably echoed some of their thoughts. When i decided to sell the fish because of an upcoming move. I started looking at the fish differently... how will this particular fish do in this tank long term after seeing its behavior amd activity 1st hand. Imo i would eventually need a larger tank. Doesnt mean that i should go and tell every single person wanting to keep a vulture cat they need a xxxx gallon tank.

His comments reminded me of all the little kids that used to run around on MFK back in the early days (2004-2006), talking out of their ass. This site to many, was a joke. Not because of the guys with big fish, big tanks, and even bigger dreams and aspirations, but because of the gangster wannabes, that seemed more interested in which fish was the toughest. That kind of moronic mindset kept me from joining for a couple of years, as I was already active on a few other forums, one where I was a moderator. It was people like Reagan, and Chris (cchhcc) that lured me in to MFK, both long gone now. They spoke then, just as I do now, on how one should approach the proper keeping of fish. That was even before your time, Viktor.

In today's world there's no excuse for acting as though it's ok to keep an adult Oscar in a 55 gallon tank. It wasn't ok in 2004, and it's not ok in 2019.

No one is bashing BIG fish keeping.

This bull crap about joining peta makes me laugh too. I'm no tree hugging save the whale hippy. I just dont like to give or hear of advise that leads to 15 years of claustrophobic living conditions for large intelligent animals.
It's the people that do, that will attract the attention of these animal rights groups and bring them down on our hobby.
I'm no peta member or wish to be but I do believe in meeting the fish I keep half way.
Sorry if that's too pitch forky or emotional for some of you.
Unfortunately I think the PETA predictions you are making may come true. We have had lots of serious vegan protests here lately, very organised and attention grabbing. All their literature and videos show some pretty horrific mistreatment of animals in abbatoirs. If (and its a big if) aquariums become targets it will be videos of giant fish in small tanks with HITH they will be showing. Funnily enough that even though you and .avatar--xss { width: 21px; height: 21px; line-height: 21px !important; margin-right: 2px; } J jaws7777 @jaws7777 seem to argue a lot these days , both of your tanks are examples of how it should be done. But I guarantee the emotional, pitchfork wielding elitists won't be showing pictures either of your tanks on their pamphlets!

And Viktor, please make note of the two quoted posts above. This is something that you just recently asked me about in another discussion. Not that I think that it will be in our life time (but it could be?), but when they come, as Ogertron3000 Ogertron3000 put it, "if aquariums become targets it will be videos of giant fish in small tanks with HITH they will be showing." You know, like a 12"+ oscar in a 55 gallon.

So while you are advocating the allowing of those types of set ups, to children or otherwise, please keep in mind that in the background people of your mindset will also be assisting the building of a PETA foothold in to our hobby.

How have my opinions changed?
I thought you were ok with restricting the sale of large fish.

Would you prefer we change OG to just read - people who have been on here longer ?

This is your selective reading skills in action again.
Your referring to the pima thread again I guess.
Yes fish like that I don't believe should be in Walmart. They should be available to order for true enthusiasts not casual hobbyists that won't be able to provide proper care. I've never said anything different.
If people have the means to look after the fish, I see no harm. Casual Johnny that pops down the local fish store and buys these fish on a whim will no doubt give fish like that a miserable short life.

So what should you say? Yes a 55 is good for life?
