Hi,

Right now, I'm really pissed. I recently upgraded my filter which is a overhead filter with Biohome grey ( sufficient for 700g ) inside, filter wool and sponges. For my powerhead, I am using Rio 2100 ( 620 gph ). My tank is a 110g tank. My water is crystal clear but the parameters are really a problem. They won't go down. It has been a week already and there is still no improvement. My water isn't even new. Please help me!

Thanks in advance

Ammonia is 1.0, nitrite is 5.0 and nitrate is 160.

Are there any fish in it? Is the tank still cycling? Have you done water changes?

Yes, there are fishes in it. I am not sure whether it is still cycling because my water is old and I just changed the filter. I do 25% changes weekly and I just cleaned it this Tuesday.

Water holds no beneficial bacteria. It sounds like it's going through a cycle. You're going to need to change 80% of the water to get nitrates down. It sounds like it's almost completely cycled so I would just change 25% of the water every other day until you're parameters are normal and you don't have fish die.

Thanks mate! I will do a 80% water change tomorrow then 25% every other day. Thanks again!

What type of substrate are you using? Is it new? How long has the tank been running. How many fish and what size are they , what and how often are you feeding them. These are all factors that need to be considered as well.

if you have any cycled filter material from another tank, throw it in the filter as well

My old filter also hasn't establish any bacteria yet too but I did rewash the filter wools, media and sponges with my recent tank water before using them.

I have a bare bottom tank and it isn't new. I have 2 giant gouramis @ 12", 1 endli @ 12", 1 senegal bichir @ 8" and an ornate bichir @ 12". The tank has already been running for years with once a week water changes. I feed my fishes tilapia fillet and OSI sinking shrimp pellets.
