Will try to upload first 2 videos tomorrow. Eggs were layed X-mas eve.

Any tips on what to feed the little fry? I've always just used first bites but I have never bred this species. I am getting a breeder net tomorrow to hold the fry in. How soon should I put the little fellers in there? Seems to only be about 100 eggs give or take. Am planning to sell the little ones off if they make it.

Congrats!!!

The eggs take a few days to hatch, and they remain in wiggler stage for several days (about a week...can't remember exactly). The fry are smaller than some other species so feeding may be a challenge. Never used first bite myself, but I've had good experience with this thing http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=16873 Another option is to "melt" flake and feed them the solution.

Thanks for the info Peter. I bought myself a breeder net today and will probably put them in it shortly after becoming free swimming. I bought some more Hikari first bites but noticed they did sell frozen baby brine shrimp so I may try that as well. I am trying to upload my videos to YouTube but it is taking forever and I cant figure out why.

Here is some courting and a quick look at my tank on the 24th of December. They stopped thier courting behavior a bit when I got the camera out but you can see the territory that they have claimed.

Nice clean setup! Fish look happy too. How many severums do you have in there?

The red ceibals (and other fish) WILL try to get to the fry through the breeder net. If you let them, they'll most likely kill all the fry through the net. I put a plastic basket (floating) outside of the net to prevent it from happening...

My wife took this Christmas morning. Not a great shot at the fish but gets a nice look at the eggs and spawning site.

what kind of plastic basket are you referring to?

I have a male and female rotkeil and 2 young notatus. If my math serves me right, thats 4

hmmm, well thanks. Im not sure what I can come up with like that. They had floating plastic breeder cages but the water flow looked like it would be very restricted through it which is why the mesh was so attractive. Ill have to see what I can come up with. Thanks for all of the information.

Nice looking tank and fish.

I'm surprised the fish dont have more imprwssive breeding colors.

My Oblongum, the female fans the eggs and the male stands guard.

My pair had eggs Sat night. They hatched 3 days later. They are not free swimming yet but should be anu day now.

Yours should be on a similar time schedule I would think.

When ever I put fry in one of those breeder nets, they die within a couple hours. Not sure why.
