man, why is everyone elses red ceibals breeding except for mine?? i have three and one sits in breeding colors (looks just like yours in the last video) all the time but won't let the other two in and doesn't have eggs.

Are you sure they aren't all males or females? Could be a lot of reasons for it.

from eyeballing i would say two males and 1 female, the other two are alot bigger, then the one defending. The female ( i believe) Is the one in breeding color and she colored up like a month ago and now my other two larger ones are starting to color up now but not nearly as intense.

look at the dorsal and anal fins. males comes to more of a point and females are rounded. size is not always an indicator (though many times is).

just to let you know, i did see the female leave her spot and swim over by the larger male. So hopefully they will pair up.

good. no reason she shouldnt warm up.

It appears the log that they were hiding the fry under has fallen back onto some of the fry and the parents have dug pits on both sides of it but the fry are still underneath out of thier reach. Should I leave the log there and let the parents figure it out or should I just move the log and risk scattering the fry?

internet is down. sorry. in the next day or two when they are free swimming i will post a video if my internet ever works again.

well i pulled them out and put them in a breeder net. The fish began attacking the net just like I was told but did not have a basket to protect it yet. I then proceeded to put them in my daughters 16 gallon with guppies and proceeded to watch the guppies devour my red ceibals. Figures, feeders eating my nice fish. Needless to say, I was very upset. Payback is something I guess. I pulled all of the guppies out and threw them in my 75 and I think I have about 20 red ceibals left eating Hikari first bites, but my numbers seem to be dwindling quickly. The 16 will now be dedicated to raising fry and the guppies are now quickly being eaten by the others.
