Red Devil Male Vs Jack Dempsey Male

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
rd are bad ass at 8" there much much more aggressive then jd in general the rd would kill the jd for sure, jd are cool fish it would be a shame to risk it unless you got them both when they are babys

Yeah your right I wouldnt risk my JD. He looks about as good as a JD can get. I will get a photo of him up soon......He isnt aggressive at all to be honest, so again more of a risk as I dont know if he would even care to defend himself at all....Does anyone have a photo of a pure bred male RD around 8 - 10 inch? No hybrid mix, completely pure?

As for an Oscar I too heard they make great tank-mates with JD's, I decided to really read up on Oscars recently and was surprised to find that Oscars are not species only, extremely aggressive and mean as I was told in some of the stores I have visited over the years! In fact they seem quite mild and passive just like a JD, though I am sure due to their size they can certainly boss the tank?

I agree, a RD really should not be housed with a JD, no match their. SOMETIMES it will work but most of the time RD's don't like tank mates. A JD is much more aggressive then an Oscar.

Just go next door to the media section I just put a pic of mine up yesterday. All Labiatus, I posted two threads one of my new little guy and one thread with Physco and my Trimac.

Hi Aquanero where is the photo of your RD I couldnt find the section?

I know female cichlids are mean too but males can do more damage, especially male JD's and male Red Devils who seem to grow significantly larger than females.....RD's are definately on my to do list.

Go to the CA/SA Media section., about halfway down the page.

Maybe you should look for more docile cichlids, since you dont like fighting, a red devil may not be the best option. Tons of other fish you could do. Maybe use the search
agreed

Ive never had a red devil that could have tankmates in tanks from a 125 to a 265. He eliminated (or tried to eliminate) every single one from the time he was about 5 inches and up.

i'm going to try to introduce more fish into a 140 with my texas but we will see what happens...

Your fish isnt a "texas". Its a flowerhorn.

A Texas is a H. cyanoguttatus.

The made up "marketing" name "green texas" is a H. carpintis.

Yours is neither of those & thats one of the reasons its as aggressive as it is and why youll have trouble finding tankmates he/she will accept. Texas & Carpintis arent nearly aggressive as hybrids.

I have to admit, while a dominant male jd can be aggressive, the RD would have it dead overnight. JDs just can't match up to a RD, it's like having a firemouth in with a buttakoferi. It's just asking for trouble
