Red dovii??? (Xanthic dovii)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe it is it with a Snook.

Lets ask the Owner to DNA check his fish. We all chip in a dollar to pay for it.

Lets ask jeff Rapps. Maybe he can ask his Gurus if he dont know.

Before I die I hope to know the truth for this.

I agree looks like a pure Dempsey to me

So here's a pic of a jack Dempsey I own. It's a normal jack dempsey with xanthic lips. With a little hard work and patience I maybe able to produce an all xanthic dempsey. So are you guys now telling me I own a hybrid dempsey, I don't think so!
I breed a lot of killies and xanthic is very popular in killies. Hybrids in killifish are frowned upon and killie hobbyist are very aware of this. However xanthic is just another colour mutation are allowed to be bred and shown.

Generally speaking, if you don't have proof of origin of a fish like this it is best to assume hybrid. It could even be a hybrid from nature.

Unless you are sure of it's lineage, or do a dna study on it, you really won't know either way.

We all could argue about this fish for years and never know the real answer.

I think its better to assume xanthic, because all xanthic means yellow/orange color than to say it is a hybrid. Besides dovii hybrids would be very uncommon. It seems dovii only breed with other parachromis sp. and that is rare.

That fish's body shape, head, lips and freckles looks exactly like a normal dovii :)..its just Red in color thats all..
Thats a xanthic dovii for ME. :)
