you sound stupid my male bl nasty and dovii are both 12 inches and ive had them from fry i raise there babys up and use them for food for my sleeper gobys and the festae could never make it to food size i currently have a adult pair of bl nast cuban cichlids and dovii also have young pairs of dovii and the newest race of loselli so like i said dont belive the hype and i got rid of my festae pair because the were usless cause there babys always get killed before they grow to food size. but because i dont run around mfk posting pics of my fish all day long im not telling the truth hah for the 100th time anybody in the dc area is welcome to come see my cichlids they are very nice you can also see one of umbees i sold to real hard cichlids on you tube. see the difference between me and you is you love your festae and do anything you can to keep him/her around like handpicking weaker tankmates and things like that while i just keep the biggest baddest and best producing fish to make me lots of feeders. thing is im not biased and dont care how good they look. and festae are not the only one ive also keep and breed umbee also and they are nowhere as mean as eveyone says. unless you call a fish growing larger than all his tankmates so now he can beat them mean but in that 8-12 in range wich most cichlids dont get bigger than they cant hang.

oh really? thats why the festae ive had in the past tried to kill my mayans but i dont let fish go that far to see what happens unlike you. my female festae currently is pretty darn aggressive but not to the point were shes a killer. i believe the op asked if festae were aggressive and the awnser is yes. if you tell him anything different then your giving him false information. you say you keep the biggest and baddest fish. is that you intentions because if it is thats pretty rediculous. most of us keep fish that are pleasing to our eyes not because they can kill each other. then you go on to talk about umbee. if thats all you want is to talk about aggressive fish then go to any webiste on the net and ask what are the most aggressive cichlids and i can guarentee you that umbee and festae are always going to be in the top 7. i guess thats not aggressive enough for you. you can keep on killing aggressive fish with more aggressive fish since that seems like thats what you want to do. have fun with your fishkeeping

Looks like you have enough info to make an educated decision. Most people who have these fish like them for various reasons that can be argued for several more threads. The fact is that you will be the one keeping it. Everyone has their favorite cichlids just as everyone has the ones they can't stand. I will be honest. I am a little biased because I think Festae are big, attractive fish that are fun to keep. That being said, I don't keep fish to enjoy gladiator matches to the death. I have Festae because I wanted a new, challenging, and colorful fish to raise. I am also a newbie at keeping them. Mine are still small. At times they are the terrors that their name suggests. Other times they are quite the contrary. But like I said mine are still young and small. It would be foolish for me to believe that a 5" fish would behave the same way that a 12" version or breeding adult would behave. Festae may not be savage brutes that rip every single cichlid to shreds, but they are not pushovers either. They are beautiful fish that should be purchased with their potential for aggression as adults in mind. You may end up with a killer or you may end up with a large manageable fish. In either case, you will have a beautiful fish that I think is well worth the time to raise. Who needs hype when personal experience and education is worth so much more? Good luck with your Festae.

you guys are good at doing spell checks and twisting words i dont keep cichlids for death matches i keep them the same way a person who breeds guppys and mollys to feed there fish. i use them to feed my gobys and tigerfish and things like that. i dont keep my pair in a 35 they are in a 75 yes i could have bigger tanks for them, yes i could put lights on the tanks and do nice setups but i dont because they are just to provide a good source of healthy live food for carnivorous fish. i have very healty well feed nice looking cichlids. i dont try to have the biggest baddest cichlids but i do like the one who are bad enough to get big enough in tanks of mixed cichlids to be used as food for a lot of fish and the fesae dont. i never said festae arent aggressive is just the ones that keep telling people you cant put anything with them cause they will kill everything. and that they are super aggressive i just havent found it to be true

i used a cell phone and the tank dont have lights so those i the best quality photos i have all fill are very healty bl nasty have fry swimming for two days now i took them they day they hatched and there going at it again. dovii have fry swiming one day now im gonna post there picks

id love to see some full tank shots. if you can provide them and they have quality tanks then i aploigise.
