red terror?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
loselli are the only ones in a tank smaller than 55 its a 29 cause i dont think im keeping them the female is very very good looking but they are just to skittish and dont breed enough also the only cichlid i havent raised in mixed tanks just never get them to breed fast enough to be used as feeders this is my third pair first of this race

im not here to tell you how to keep your fish but you know as well as anyone those fish cannot be happy in a 75 gallon tank. if the dovii that appears as large as they look in your pics are breeding in a 75 does not mean its suitable. i hope you upgrade to a larger tank.

Hi,

I have kept festae for nearly 3 years and can confirm that I have found them to be 'assertive' all the time and mine were straight out nasty once they had paired and had eggs in the tank.

By assertive I mean mine would chase and nip other fish entering their territory but retreat once they had backed off. whereas once there was eggs the male and female would chase and chase and bite all day (till I removed them).

They only fought each other at 3 inches, at 6 inches other tank mates were being 'moved along'.

Once they were larger and there was only the pair of festae (no other festae) they were a heap calmer but when they spawned they were nuts but not killers just serial nippers.

I would recommend keeping them in a species tank with maybe some big silver dollars for dither fish.

Watch them at breeding time, my male tore a 1/2 inch hole in the side of his mate coz he was ready and she wasn't ....

Here are mine:

Good luck, they both look absolutely beautiful when breeding!

explain to me what a happy fish is fish guts since you can talk to fish. one thing i know is fish that are not healthy and happy dont breed every 3-4 weeks dovii that arent happy wont be full of color green blue purple with lots of backround spots also fish that were not happy would not eat 3-4 times a day all different kinds of food every pellet from bio gold to massivore, frozen blood worms beefheart and shrimp, live brine shrimp ghost shrimp and lots of other food. nice healthy happy glaas bangin baby making dovii. i have also breed to many cichlids to count and have been breeding cichlids for feeders for more than 10 years. so my fish are fine this is the last time i post to the cichlid forum i let all the experts handle it

Wait wait wait....

I don't understand why fishguts has to be able to talk to the fish to know they're happy, but you can just tell because they eat and breed. Or is that you can talk the fish? It just doesn't make sense to me. Please explain, thanks.

Why restock your tank-get him 4 mates
put him with an Escondido, RD, Cuban, Salvini
those are agg. enough and in a 125 that would work well-maybe even a school of Red Hook SDs.

youre right...heres the hype (BS) to not believe

Now that comes directly from the horses *** of someone thats never kept any of them bigger than 4-5 inches probably and never kept a grown spawning pair.

Its like this with all your comments. You say "its all hype" yet every fish youve kept, youve never kept full grown, you keep them for a few weeks then think you have the experience with them enough to make asinine comments.

When youve kept something longer than 2-3 months...and definitely longer than 2 yrs, then your comments will hold more weight. Until then, you ought to just read and learn...and learn punctuation and spelling.

Oh...and hows your "killer" dovii pair you keep in a 35?...:screwy: Those are just feeders though right? So it doesnt matter...On top of not knowing much about which you speak, you cant even keep fish properly housed.

I agree, my Amarillo was a wimp til he reached 8 inches-and now he is challenging my large Trimac. Fish take time to show their true colors.

dude anyone on here will tell you not to slap 2 big dovii in a 75 gallon tank thats plain common sense which you dont have.
you started off telling the op festae are not aggressive fish which was a ignorant response on your part then i hear you have the pair of dovii in a 75. nuff said

Yeah I agree-pretty much most large cichlids need atleast a 125 gallon. To the OP planning is the key. If your really set on Festae then start over and get the above I mentioned
