Does anybody own a Red Texas that has "faded" red? I'm not talking about yellow, light orange, or deep orange. Even the deepest color on a pure red devil or midas is not red, it is still orange. I am aware of the faded deep orange ones that have red on top of the orange, but I'm talking about fading to a red base color as a whole. I have had experience with 2 different pairs(superbowl spawn pair and the current pair I have now) and the only time "blood red" is a base color is when there is no fading process. Those that just turn red take after the texas because they also don't fade. To sum it up... The fading process never ends up with a deep "red" base color. That is what I have learned from my own experience and I'm just trying to get a better understanding of these fish we enjoy called "Red Texas." If you own one or know of a link that shows this please post. Thanks

That's interesting. I've never thought of that. Do you have any pics or videos of your blood red RT's?

I had one from our superbowl spawn but its sibblings killed it. I have a red one now that is 7 months and I'm trying to see if its fertile. Its color is red but not a deep rich red. But both were NON faders and that was why I made this thread. I appreciate your reply Gutted and I will post him when someone shows me what I asked so we can compare. But if you really want to see him check out my "Jacked em see" thread. He's the other fish in the pic.

Im always interested in anything RT related. Did you notice any red on him when he was smaller? I have some fry from my faded RT batch that have some red on their gill plates and a little behind them. They're still real small so hopefully more red comes out.

Thanks for showing interest to the thread... That question is hard to answer because I have different parents. The genes are so scrambled from the first the cross, there is no definate answer. Anybody know about red fading RT's?

The real red looking RT's you're talking about are considered SRT's. Most ppl label regular RT's as SRT's. The SRT's are selectively bred to probably all red flowerhorns to get that true red color. I'm sure it was a while before they got them consistent. I honestly don't think it's just from a fading fish, but it could be. i added a pic to show how flowerhorns pick up the red even in faders. Just my 2 cents.

Here;s some photos for reference. This is your classic SRT. Look how sunken the eyes are. Definitely bred with vieja or flowerhorn that was already cross with vieja.

Here you can see how a faded flowerhorn can possess a true red. Maybe not the entire body, but I'm sure down the line after much breeding, they got them to come out all red.

They say this is a SRT because it's probably bred with flowerhorn x red texas. YOu can clearly see this looks like a kamfa

after that one died, I got this one. Though unfaded, it has deep red in a small area. so yeah they do get the real red but only a percentage of the whole fish.

yeah, but I;ve seen many like this, so I am just using the photo as reference. They definitely do exist and they look like this without camera tricks or lighting as proof in your videos.
