The Follow is information pulled off Google and are as follows:
Rena Xp3 Filter specs:
$110 US dollars
350gph
2 US gallon cap.
19Watts
Max head 5.25ft (questionable)
3 baskets
Rena Xp4 specs:
$205 US dollars
450gph
3 US gallon cap.
23 watts
Max Head 6.5ft (questionable)
4 baskets
Fluval Fx5 Specs
$280 (can be found Cheaper but i wanted to use the readily availible price as i did the others)
925gph
1.5 US gallon cap.
48 Watts
Max head 10.8ft
3 baskets
Now let me explain why i think the max head is Questionable for the Rena Filters. I bought a Xp4 thinking it would be good buy seeings how i was getting it for 200 bucks over 3 years ago and it just couldn't push the 5ft From my Floor to edge of tank for more than 20 minutes. It would incresingly slow down in flow rate. Once it lost its flow stretgh it would just give up and stop. Now i thought it might of been defective so i took it back to the store and got another one. Well Long story short it did the very same thing as teh first.
I decide to look for another Canister and was told to look at the Fx5 by Fluval. I was told it was about another 100 buck more but it will do what im asking of the canister and wont stop. Its been 3 years now with mine and i cant say ive had an problems with mine and it always relieves the air from the system (hardly ever is any so i never notice its even there). I cant be more happy with my Fx5. I will never again try and save a buck when it comes to just getting the job done or knowing what i get will do what i ask without any problems.

What does need to be considered is the actual flow rate of the filters. Just going of memory here but these are the numbers to be considered. XP3 @ 185gph, XP4 @195gph and the FX5 is 425gph.

so I would think that the figures given for max. head would be correct.
FishNCash;3950548; said:I think his Rena canister might have picked up air into the impellar. Unfortunately, this is a known problem for my Rena XP3 as well. I would release the latch to let air out. I think it's because the spray bar is above the water line and sometimes end up picking up air. I agreed with him on the statement you paid for what you get. For the price it's worth every pennies but not the best filter in the its class.
Bderick67;3946538; said:Have you actually tested this with a flow meter? Cause the manufacturer (Rena) states different.
