Am I crazy or are Rena filters POS? I bought an XP4 and had to replace it within a month, and now two months later a different one died. Did I just get two bad apples, or are Rena filters just that bad? I read good review, but experience has been dreadful. The intake has plenty of room, and the spray bar had good pressure coming from it, but two have died on me in 3 months.
 
I personally believe the XP3's and XP4s are like apples and oranges.

the XP3 is one of the most popular canisters out there right now (the best selling one on Big Als online for example) and for good reason.

economical, easy to prime, lots of media capacity, well made etc.

I have had mine for two years and was so happy I bought another.

the XP4 on the other hand, has had some negative reviews (on this site I believe) and is overpriced in the opinion of many (myself included).

all Rena did was stick another tray on top and put in a larger motor, for a huge price difference that is not really warranted...

my two cents.
 
Have two xp3's that work great. Have heard bad reports on the xp4.

mine are awesome no offense but sounds like operator error
 
I just bought a Rena Filstar xP4 about 3 weeks ago. So far I am NOT impressed. I am going to call them to see If it is something I am doing wrong. Both pipes arre full of moldy looking stupp and there is no pressure where the water comes out. When I put fish food on the water it doesn't move. Does this sound normal ? It was cloudy and didn't smell good so I stuck a emperor 400 on it and it cleared over night. This Rena cost 5 times what the Emperor did what gives ? My stnad is low and i can barley fir the filter underneath, would this do it? I can't get it any lower, what can I do ?

I will not take offense, but how can it be operator error. The filter worked, then it stopped. I'm not sure what I could have done.
