Rena Filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think what I am going to do is exchange my XP4 for one more. It is still under warranty. I will set it up per the instructions and go from there. If this one fails as well, with all the good reviews on them, I may try an XP3. I really hope the XP4 ends up working, as I have already paid the $$ for it.

I've always heard bad things about the xp4 renas.

I agree on the xp3 being a good filter though, I have 5 running and have had absolutely no problems, so you could be better off just exchanging for those.

yes it does matter. some carbon could slip through and actually damage your filter(if you read your manual closely it states these tips)

Even if that was the case, it doesn't explain his pump not working. The pump should still work, that would just reduce the flow rate.

No carbon in the filter. Sponges, biowheels and poly filter and a water polisher. I was there when he first assembled it....

I am using 2 XP3's and an XP4 on my 320 gallon tank that is 6 feet high (5 feet high for the filters). I have had them for about 2 months with no problems so far but I have noticed the mold/dirt in the clear tubing. I don't think it will be a problem, though.

I had a Fluval 404 that was noisy, really hard to prime, short tubing and not much flow. A real piece of junk. As a result I have been afraid to buy a FX5, though others seem to like them. I will have my 60 gallon sump back in place soon, so I think I'll stick with the Rena filters for now.

I have a 304. Blows.

I will say, when it was working, it was a champ!!! In the four days that it has been broke, my water has gotten pretty cloudy. When the XP4 was up and running, is was clear as drinking water.

Ok so I just swapped out for my third XP4 and it took me an hour to put it together, because I read the instructions twice before I began the setup. Currently the motor is quiet and the flow is coming out of the spray bar as hard as a Peter North money shot!!

I will keep you guys posted on what happens in the next day or so.

uhhhhh....perv

hope it works out for you

quoting you in my sig...

As of right now, the water is clear, the motor is quiet, and the flow from the spray bar is still strong. It's only been a couple of days, so I won't hold my breathe, but already this one is running stronger than the previous 2.
