I am quite pleased with my Renas. I have a XP1,XP3 and a XP4. All have served me well. As far as operator error I did do a couple things that affected the performance on my xp4 and I could see it causing problems had it continued long term.
Since I'll be moving soon I didnt cut the tubing to length since I dont know how it will be placed at my new home. As a result the weight of the tubing hanging created a kink where they connect to the valves. That severely restricted my flow which i didnt notice until doing a large water change. The other mistake I made was I underestimated the suction of the XP4 and didnt realize it was sucking in air bubbles from my bubbler. As a result I developed more air in those loops of hose I mentioned and that messed up preformance.
All my Renas work great though. Ive had my X1 for a few years and my x3 for over a year. I think they are also much easier to service than my Fluvals that I replaced them with.
