Heard it'll happen suddenly without warning when they grow to a certain size. Seems it'll be too little too late by then.i'd try a 7-8 ft tank.. and like some others said keep an eye on it in a semi permanent basis..when that goes bad it's going to be over quick in an ugly way...

She's rather timid. Just wondering.. whether a solitary fish ever gets lonely.. ?

No. The Crayfish will get eaten, or eat the fish. Smaller fish, like a pair of livebearer are good cause they breed like rats. Also, since you said she is timid, she may get scared, and/or the crab or crayfish will. This is my opinion...anyone else?Would a crayfish or crab be a suitable tank mate, to add color to the tank? ?
May work short term, but be ready to replace it every molt. My Jack Dempsey tried to beat up a crayfish bigger than it, I don’t want to imagine what a jag can do. Part of the natural diet for most cichlids is crustaceans.Would a crayfish or crab be a suitable tank mate, to add color to the tank? ?
Wow..great info. Thx. I know for sure that shrimps do make a cichlid's diet.. but an armored large crustacean.. Oh yeah I forgot.. They molt. How silly of me. ?May work short term, but be ready to replace it every molt. My Jack Dempsey tried to beat up a crayfish bigger than it, I don’t want to imagine what a jag can do. Sometimes it works, but it usually doesn’t last.
If you do it, get a cheap feeder crayfish. No point in spending $20 on a nice one. It won’t know the difference in taste ?
Not sure if you tried it yet, but what about some sort of catfish.
Convicts also make good dither/fillers, they can hold their own and reproduce fast enough to act as a sort of food supply. And they’re cheap.
i honestly don't know..i doubt it .. anything that is mouth size won't last...Would a crayfish or crab be a suitable tank mate, to add color to the tank? ?
Likewise anything bigger that molts.. Loli honestly don't know..i doubt it .. anything that is mouth size won't last...
