The show rescue ink on nat geo just did a show in NJ where a man had a school of rbp's in a tank. They were appalled that these fish were being kept in a home with children. The show painted them as vicious killers. I found some humor in it. The only crimes were that they are illegal in that state as far as I know and the tank was much to small... thought I'd share.

I didn't know that show had started airing. The media will forever portray piranhas as vicious meat eating fish and it'll forever make me laugh.

That show is a joke.....

Piranha aren't illegal in new jersey.. Someone needs to shed a better light on responsible piranha keepers.. People always seem to turn their nose up when they find out someone keeps piranha because they think that we all feed our fish mice and goldfish.. However it's quite the opposite, the majority of piranha keepers are very passionate about the hobby in general and don't keep piranha because of their horrendouse reputation.

just saw the video on NG's website. it's in Bronx which piranha is illegal (in NYC) but what they call "piranha facts" are none sense. based on what they said then none one should have any pets; dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc. basically anything that can potentially harm a human being should not be kept.
we should make a complain to Nat Geo about all the incorrect facts about piranhas (probably many other animals) being released to general public.

Wow....that show is a joke indeed. I watched the link to the video. Those guys are super ignorant regarding Piranha.

how do these idiots have a show, and how does NatGeo manage to produce ignorant crap like this after putting out Monster Fish of the Congo/Amazon/Mekong and River Monsters?? On top of it all, nice acclimation job guys!

Somebody needs to tell Jeremy Wade about this...

Come on now, let's not go overboard. All the guys did was remove an illegal fish from a state it's illegal to own them in.

Their comment about the kids potentially getting 20 bites that quickly was way off base though. So was the danger level they tried to present but you had to paint an ugly picture to sell the show.

What i found interesting was the guy at the aquarium thought they'd be ready to go in the big tank with the full grown pygos in 2 months? They'd be a snack.

Personally - that show pissed me off although it was most definately staged - way too many P's in a 40 gal. tank they'd be killin' each other off long before the video was shot. And ya shame on National Geographic - 1st for supplying the public with disinformation about Piranha temperment - 2nd for then turning around and asking this forum for a video shoot in a region that's 50% legal Maryland and 50% illegal VA.
