Restarting a Monster Comm

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your brave putting it in there, looks like an easy meal lol

LOL!

Bad news. The little guy was harassed non stop by the channa and I have to sell it to my friend. Was really hoping it will work out.

Then I realized I could have grow him out by clearing one of my sump tank compartments. Damn.

Anyway, moving on from this episode. Will still clear out the compartment and will use it to grow out some African Pikes.

Added a dorado (franky) into the mix and a similar sized PB as a "meat bruiser".

One thing about dorados, they will not hesitate to test every fish in the tank whether big or small. Got itself beaten quite abit but survived and eating well.

Will monitor its behavior as it grows up.

Updating my feisty dorado. Huge eater and has grown abit in girth.

High chance that a Curupira and a bowfin will join and complete my monster comm. From what I gathered, though listed as a sub tropical species, bowfin will do well in a tropical tank too. Any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure, it sounds to me like their needs are almost as bad as sub-tropical channas.
Your Pleuro could cause issues, but a bowfin? I'd expect it to fight its way through your entire stock, and either manage to, or die in the process.

I've never had one, so don't take my word for it, but this is the reason I never got one, as it would have been a somewhat alright substitution for my 2nd dream fish which is Micropeltes, that sadly gets even bigger. When I did my studies, I don't recall a single long term good experience of a bowfin in a comm xD

The curu should be fine, but idk about the bowfin. As stated above I've never read if a long term Cohab.

Thanks Madou and Moe!

Advice taken and bowfin not added.

Confirmed the order for the Curupira though - awaiting with much eagerness now.

Let's hope I can close the order for my comm tank with either (or both) a GATF and Lacerdae.

Just realized I didn't have a full tank shot after getting the comm together. :)

At this moment; what are your opinions:

1. Too crowded? (Will upgrade when the need comes).

2. Just alright.

3. Can grow out perhaps another one or two monsters in there.

An Aimara should be coming in (fingers crossed). Still thinking about a GATF (if they ever becomes available) but unsure how the dorado will reacted.

I'd personally get rid of the Oscar and bass to make space for another characin such as the aimara you're planning to get. Looking at your set up it doesn't seem to crowded, maybe it's like my tank, looks bare When everyone's hiding but when everyone is out its kinda like woah. Though my tank is like that cause the bichirs and wolf hide so well.
