Redo of my idea, would this work better than the first one?

U shaped design, at each tip of the U the depth would be about a foot, 7 sections; drop off between sections, deepest section would be where the U meets in the center at about 12 feet deep. I figure with the whole pond filled up it would hold about 42900 gallons. I have a design if anyone wants to see it, I will put it on if I can figure out how to do that.

Decor would include:
Driftwood
Lava Rock
Sunken structures

Plants
anything suggestions?

Fish:

Suckerfish
Freshwater Drum
Green Sunfish
Crappie (Black and White)
Bullhead Catfish (Yellow, Brown, and Black)
Common Carp
Koi
Channel Catfish

Largemouth Bass
Shovelnose Sturgeon
Walleye
Gizzard Shad
Rudd
Spotted Gar
Northern Pike
Flathead Catfish
Any suggestions?

Food fish would be raised on site mostly. Food that would be brought from elsewhere would be inspected before fiving it to the fish.

Filtration:
Pool filters running 12-24 hours daily, time determined by how well the filters work.

I would also tell people that if they had fish that outgrew their home aquariums and they called in advance that I might be able to take them. They would get a discount on seeing the tank if I can make it a business. Any suggestions?

Also I am only 17 right now, so this would not be even close to possible in another 10+ years.

i would like experianced or knowledgeable peoples advice on the idea. advice is always taken into thought no matter what it is. and so far i have changed my idea drastically from advice.

Ok, just a few things about the fish. First off, good luck finding any shovlenose sturgeon. If you do find them, they will be out-competed for food by the catfish. Second, a big catfish will eat a small catfish( A large channel or flathead will eat the bullheads). The gizzard shad will be eaten by the bass, walleye, gar and pike. I'm not to sure if you can keep pike and gar in the same tank. Pike tend to be territorial and the gar would be in the upper region of the tank with the pike so you might end up with missing gar after a while. What kind of food fish do you plan on raising.

finding a shovelnose sturgeon is easy. you just catch one from a river, my friends and i caught two on set lines in a week this last summer.

I will take out the flathead catfish, northern pike, channel catfish, and spotted gar. most of the gizzard shad would be in a seperate tank or pond to be bred if possible then used as food fish for the larger fish.

The other food fish for the smaller fish would be minnows bred and kept in the seperate tank or pond. Pellets would also be fed to the fish for another source of food.

next post in a few minutes will be the tank revised with these changes.

If you ever catch one around 6-12 inches you should ship it to me. I'll pay for shipping.:D

yellow perch if ur going with a native theme

i hope i do catch one that size if i do you will be the first one that i ask online. if none of my friends wants one of course. i have a few ideas as to how to get some sturgeon that size but i dont have the resources or money to do it yet.

Looks pretty good, I think you could add chain or grass pickerel if you want. They aren't territorial at all and they stay much smaller. And I think the perch would be pretty cool to. What is your plan for catching the sturgeon at that size?

nice. i forgot about those, since ive never heard of anyone catching them around here. ive been looking for a fish that could survive in a pond like the one im thinking of. ill add a chain pickerel to my list. thanks.

i dont know anything about those because they are not found around omaha.

do you think that a grass carp might be able to survive with the other fish on my list?

I think you would have to many fish in the same region of the tank with the koi, carp, rudd, drum and even walleye. And grass carp are mostly plant eaters. Pickerel are just like small pike, but they can withstand warmer temps than pike.
