Ridiculous stuff your LFS/Petsmart has told you

petsmart told me that the water in the fish tank need to be 100 degrees and that the saltwater fish can live with freshwater if you put aquariom salt that removes stress.
(Me pointing at a Red Tail Catfish of one foot)

that if i was starting a tank i can put fish in after 2-3 days but if i got the 6" pleco they had and wanted that to be my first addition then i would have to wait 5 days before adding the pleco.
needless to say i tried to put across the fact that im not a novice and that sort of info is dangerous to spread. he wouldnt have it so i started laughing as i was walking away. he now avoids me like the plague when i go in the fish section. our version of petsmart is pets at home.

This does not exactly qualify but it is on-topic: One of my first jobs was at Petco. My first day on the job I didn't know dick about fish and I sold a lady a bunch of African chichlids (the small, colorful kind). The fish of course killed everything in her tank as soon as she got them home. Oops.
Don't trust fish store people working at the big chains. There is no "training" you learn over time (meaning you tell lots of customers wrong or stupid info before you learn better)
LOL I still laugh about it when I think of my then-manager telling me I sold a bunch of fish to a lady; and those fish killed alll of her existing fish lol
Don't be too hard on fish store employees. Do you have any idea how much money they make? Practically nothing. What is their motivation for being educated about fish (or anything, for that matter)???

So with that said I asked this one cat that I was setting up a new tank and all what does he reccom... Jackaz told me I should start with a Pleco b4 I get any fish.
Now come on... even a rock will tell you that a new tank has no ALGE for a sucker to suck on
... I usually dont correct people cause then I sound like an arse but I had to. Dude got a lil upset cause I corrected him.He also told me that some of the fish on the floor were resting...Lol
In my head I was like "They are dying you retard
"today at the LFS a kid of about 5 years old pointed to a tomato clownfish and said "daddy I want that one!" and the employee scooped it out. I'm really hoping he told them it needed saltwater....
