Rimless Bottomless 100g tank setup

Very cool! Cant wait to see more pics with fish in it. But what i dont get is how water doesnt flow out?

the smaller tank is upside down and holds water due to the vacuum being created. the water can't leave because air can't reach there to take it's place. if there were a hole in the smaller tank, air would get in and water would leave.

my concern with the way you have it set up would be the pressure on the bottom pane of glass being localized at just those four points where the bottles are. if you could get some sort of rectagular support that spread the weight out more, i would think it would be better. i would also think that siliconing or otherwise attaching (i imagine silicone would be difficult due to the small tank being acrylic) the bottles or whatever support to the tank would be a good safetly measure. it isn't likely, but if someone leans on the upper tank, or you bump it the right way while working in the tank, or something like that, i would be very scared that it might tip over the tank and create a huge mess. be careful.

I thought about using a tempered pane of glass I have to distribute the weight over the bottom but after several trials I found It wasn't needed. Plus somethings I didn't count on with this setup was the fact that the 29g tank floats due to the air pocket at the top. The water weight is enough to hold it down but once the water drains halfway out of the 29g the boancy shifts and flips the tank. I spent alot of time trial and erroring this stepup outside long before I brought it in and did the final setup. Plus weight ratio wise the bottom pane of glass on the 75g is a 1" thick piece which has several supports that it rests on with the stand to help distribute the weight. Also incase for any reason there were to be a leak develop in the 29g and the water would begin to drain out the sump can hold up to aproxamtly 30 gallons of water at max full. So in the end I would be looking at maybe 5 to 10g to worry about escaping into catch area in the stand. I put a plank of would accross the back incase this happens so that bottom of the stand becomes an overflow for the sump. The only major issue I've run into thus far is as you pointed out being very carefull cleaning the tank and maintaining it because it a tight squize getting at the area underneith the 29g. I'll post pics tonight if I get a moment of the tank setup with sand and live stock; still working on planting the tank . On a side note the only major issue i encounted to date was the fact that the the guppies I was using as feeder for the Bircher jumped out like crazy so i kept finding them dead on the floor. Then on Sunday I found the bircher had escaped and was halfway across the room dead :( Somehow the little guy had crawled almost 12ft before he hid out behind a cooler and died :'(

looks pretty sweet man. I like it but damn I'd be nervous having that in my house lol. nice build tho

Very nicely done man, you did a great job that tank looks sick. i love the rimless 75 gallon. I wasnt too crazy about the wine bottle because i like a natural look but it doesnt look too bad. The only thing i would change if it were me is the light fixture. I would get one that goes the length of the top tank. But besides that it looks like a hell of a display. I would add like a moss or duck weed or a surface plant or something to the top tank to make it look like its not as empty.
