Rio mongo convicts?

well it's definitely not something you come across every day if that's what you mean. i wasn't even aware of this variant / species until sunday.
i like mine - they are very curious and outgoing. i'm going to give them their own tank so they can show their colors more.

Cool! I am thinking about breeding nanolutus...:)

cryptoheros are quite under rated... the family is quite interesting.
they are all smallish and curious cichlids that have nice personalities and good colors. people dismiss them a lot because convicts happen to be bread and butter fish that breed like rabbits.
sajicas... cutteri... nanolutous... all are pretty and very interesting to watch!

here are the pictures... i am no expert or am very scientific in nature, but just from a purely observational perspective, they appear to be more of a geographical variant of convicts. one thing i did notice is that the female seems to have a blueish tinge around her eyes. i don't know if you can see from the pictures. i haven't kept convicts for such a long time that i don't even remember! what i do know is they look a heck of a lot better than most run of the mill convicts you see in an LFS!
regardless of what they are, i'm glad i got them :)

female - looks pretty much like a normal BW convict female... there's a bit more blue on her fins though

male - you can see the orange / yellow fins, which i think is quite nice
