Ripariums for Plant Filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is another quick picture of that 11.4G setup. The plants are doing pretty well.

The planting in the 55 is still doing well. This is most definitely the least demanding setup tat I have ever done. It gets only about 20 minutes of attention each week and looks great. A riparium setup like this would be real good for dentists' offices and similar settings.

^ that 55 is stuning. What is the main plant above the waterline? Do you build your own stands?

Thanks JK47! The main abovewater plant in there is peace lily (Spathiphyllum). They are actually sort of boring plants, but they are really easy to grow this way and work great for filling in the riparium background area.

I have two different species of Spathiphyllum (I think) coverted to FW use already, per your previous advice. Your right about it growing easy. My smallest tank doesn't even have a biofilter it has propegated so well. I am slowly caring less and less about hard scape and planted tanks and moving towards these setups. Beauty and function in the same package.. It really makes me wonder why more people are not headed down this path? It's very rewarding.

Instead of using planters to grow the plants, I build a "wall" from a 3D background for the plants to grow behind. It does not look as nice but seperates the two concepts well. Have you ever considered trying that? I bet with your eye for scape and knowledge of plants you could put my tanks (already do) to shame. Or smhame them a little more lol..

Probably because your tanks start looking like something out of Little Shop of Horrors...

Yep, Spathiphyllum is a great riparium plant. It is sort of boring overall but it is great for filling in the background and it is so easy to grow.

I just redid the planting in my 50-gallon setup. It looks a lot better, but the plants have some growing-in to do.
