riverside progression.

If you want to keep the theme going with your keyholes, you might want to go with head and tail light tetras. Not quite as colorful as the rainbows, they are from the same area of South America as the keyholes are.

There's actually still 2 rosy white tip tetras in there, definitely going to change those out at some point. No definite plans for permanent tankmates yet, definitely not going to be strict biotope though, not really fond of head & tail lights so prob won't get those. More tank pics coming soon, although it really hasn't progressed that much.

logged in just to leave a comment. I like how you always come up with new projects. still have any of those SB texas you were into a couple years back? would actually love one or a few to fill my empty 30 or 40breeder. well keep it up, very interesting, i like threads like these if anything i hope this keeps you going or at least gives you a little morale boost

Don't have the texas anymore, got rid of the last of them some time ago. Thanks for reading, I'm loving this project. Really different from any I've done, it takes me back to when fishkeeping was just fun, and not all business.

p.s. do I seem down/depressed?
p.p.s. more pics & updates coming soon...I promise!

Made a few changes since the last pics were taken. Finished adding the rest of the substrate & removed the last of the natural gravel. The Pennywort (hydrocotyle verticillata), Golden lloydiella (Lysimachia nummularia), and water sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides), were all suspended near the surface (right side of the tank) using hydroponic baskets zip-stripped together, and clever usage of an artificial vine. Since this was done those three plants have shown a marked improvement in health/growth. The micro swords (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis?) were sold to me improperly named as dwarf hairgrass, after some googling I see they are sometimes called by this misnomer...still not 100% sure of the correct name...were broken up further and planted directly in the substrate. The amazon swords (Echinodorus amazonicus) were stripped back to fresh/new growth and also planted directly in the substrate. The keyholes have picked each other off 'til there are only three left, my first guess was 2 female and 1 male. After watching their behavior more closely, I've since revised that opinion to 2 male 1 female. Whichever sex the third wheel is hopefully it can make it 'til tomorrow when it will be returned to the lfs. It appears in good health, no tattered fins etc, but the other two chase it constantly, the chasers are clearly (imo) a m/f pair. Still debating rock work/driftwood as a support/planting area for the suspended plants on the right. The corn plants (Draceana spp), will remain as they are, suspended by the Exo-terra "jungle vine". I rather like the look if it, and it's fairly moisture resistant. Can't wait 'til the roots of the corn plants grow out and thicken up some more, it'll help hide the ugly algae-fied look on the back wall of the tank. The spraybar I ordered is not working out as I'd like, very much considering altering it by drilling out the holes to be much larger, and placing it at the very end of the tank on the left side. It pokes me in the eye too much when in a more traditional placement (full length on the back wall), and the flow is just too much. For now the return flow seems to be working just fine as is. This tank will definitely be re-worked as I go along, for now the only definite change I have in mind is to add tons more micro swords.

And now to the most important part of this post...pics!

You can see just how small the water lettuce is in the top water pic, it's that smaller group of plants clustered around the end of the plastic vine. None larger than a dime!

Changing things again...more update pics soon as the water clears. Will hopefully have it down to just the pair of keyholes as well, trying to catch the third wheel atm. Cheers!

Brought the water level up to 40gal's and added some rock work...not sure I'm 100% happy with the placement/number of rocks. Also removed that godawful filter sponge from the left end & replaced it with a small mesh bag over the intake. The modified spraybar works just as I wanted it to, very happy with how that turned out. Unfortunately with all the changes the keyholes have turned back into scaredy cats. Will possibly pick up some praecox for dithers this week.
