Rogue, my "little" stunner

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Jesus. Let me be clear - I DO NOT CARE. I really don't give a rat's behind if they are line bred or a mix. I was simply trying to show off a gorgeous example of a fish you don't see often. I'm not interested in debating the what ifs.

You're literally the only person I've ever seen that claims that. They're line bred fenestratus, not hybrids, according to literally everything I've ever read except your posts.

Just clarifying and adding on to your claims above. He’s far from being the only person to question this aquarium strain, and there is zero proof as to them being a pure strain.

Carry on……..

There's also zero proof to them being hybrids, if that's your argument. Either way, I don't recall asking. Move along.

I’m honored I have free rent in your head 😂😂😂what happened w that Jeff Rapps fish indentification? Thank you…just listen to the experts, you guys have fun….
I do hope that by "experts" you are not referring to yourself, and you don't have free rent, you are merely a visitor

Thank you. I've never kept oscars - sorry, never seen the appeal lol - so I can't compare the two. I will say that Rogue has been relatively tolerant of other CICHLIDS that he has shared space with, but once he got to about 5" or so he started taking out anything that wasn't another cichlid. He was originally housed in my 8ft long tank with my heterospila, at the time also had a cutteri, a rainbow, and a big school of congo tetras. He was the only fenestratus, added at about 2" in size. When he started killing the congos, I decided to pull him out. Since then I've tried him with a few other cichlids and he's been pretty indifferent to them - the cutteri moved with him, he's had his convict buddy for quite a while now, at one point there was three male convicts in with him, etc. Occasionally I see a slight chomp looking mark on Dozer's side (the convict) but mostly they get along well and Dozer has no fear of swimming near Rogue. But I tried adding a couple bristlenose plecos at one point thinking they'd be safe, and he wiped them out.

As for personality, he's pretty personable like most big CA cichlids. Rarely hides, always comes to say hi when I go near his tank, etc. No aggression to me AT ALL...I play it safe and try not to get my hands TOO close to him just out of habit, but tank cleaning is easy and he just ducks into his "den" and stays far away from my hands. No interest in attacking the python while it's in the tank, unlike Tolken (my midas) who tries to kill it.

I agree it is a gorgeous fish, love to see posts like this where I can drool at fish I can't get here. Maybe someday though.

... zero evidence and certainly no provenance back to the wild. Back to Thailand would be more probable.
