Rose Queen Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i am literrally counting the days down when i transfer over my 8" rose queen to my new tank where my 8" butakofi currently resides.
WISH ME LUCK......

My experience with Rose Queens over many years is that they are of uneven temperament and have amongst the most dangerous teeth of any Cichlid. I had a 9" one several years ago which mated with 3 Flowerhorns at least her size and eventually killed all of them, fairly easily. I would expect it to shred the JD, but not necessarily right away.

Rose Queens cannot live with anything else once mature. There are Purple Rose Queens and Orange ones (See Images of Rose Queen Cichlids). The Orange ones are hybrids of Red Devil x Flowerhorn. They have no lips to speak of, and you can see their sharp teeth head on. They are incredibly vicious, and very adept at breaking the lower jaws of competitors or potential mates. I have been bitten by one who drew blood quite easily, and who in an attempt to mate with a Red Dragon Flowerhorn much larger than she was, broke his lower lip in a lip-lock that lasted only 3-4 seconds, and now he can only eat things he can swallow without chewing.

Rose Queens are not Flowerhorn. There isn't one drop of fh in a rq. Rose Queens are created from a synspilum/red devil or midas.

The exact origin of Rose Queens is slightly muddled. History of the Red Parrot by Jian Zhi Chen (2004), who has written extensively on hybrid cichlid ancestors states with certainty the the offspring of a Red Devil and a Vieja syspilum is a Blood Parrot, either a Red Diamond or a Red Precious Stone, depending on the sex of each parent. Red Precious Stones exhibit the mouth deformation (See "Images of Red Precious Stone Parrot Fish). This combination does not produce a Rose Queen. Gold Fader Flowerhorns have Trimac Blood, but not Trimac spots in most cases. Rose Queens may have arisen by a similar color evolution.
