On another note. Is this the same crazy rtc that tried to eat the other one the same size? You still got the 30"?

Yes it is. He doesn't play well with others, but has a very cool personality and loves to interact with people.......just not other fish :D

Yup still got the big guy. He's chillin in his jacuzzi. He's acting totally RTC like now and cant seem to ever eat enough. Its amazing how gentle he is and he never gets crazy, just a big old fat bastard :D He ate about 14 X-large shrimp the other day, and wanted more. I need to find a cheaper way to keep him happy, I dont eat 14 shrimp for dinner :irked:

Sorry to hear about your Jau.

Try feeding around 28 shrimp at a time. My largest lima eats 5 per meal, or else no one else will eat. lol. 28 is what my hybrid eats. Either that or 2 lbs pompano 1/2 lbs a piece. He does at least 1 lb every other day, and that's a lite meal. If I'd let him he will eat a whole 2 1/2 lbs bag of shrimp at a time. I did it one time out of curiosity. Takes about 15 mins to take the shell off 2 1/2 lbs of large shrimp. I can get them for $8 per bag. Wish I could find a deal on the net to have like 100 lbs shipped really cheap.

what a waste!!! she was a beauty! :(

bad rtc bad.:banhim:

In the majority of catfish tanks it's survival of the fittest unless you have a massive tank. Hence I have a 1100 gal pond, but am starting work now on the 2500 gal.

Sorry to hear about your loss . Hopefully no one else will have any bad happenings to them...

Sorry for your loss. Seems I am not the only one to take a loss. My Jau unfortunately died. It wasn't the rtc though. Broken heater. I think eventually the Jau would have killed my rtc. He was always ripping the rtc fins. He was 10x more aggressive. The rtc has yet to eat a fish that wasn't handed to him thawed from the freezer.

On another note. Is this the same crazy rtc that tried to eat the other one the same size? You still got the 30"?
hey necro how exactly did the jau die? was it too cold or sumthing?

Yes. The water temps are normal between 72-82 f. For some reason the heaters make it fluctuate over several weeks, but one of the heaters broke and when I got home from work last time the water temps were down to 56 degrees F. The water took my breath away it was so cold when I reached down to get the jau out. He was upside down on the bottom. The RTC was almost there and I evacuated him into the house. Those are the lowest temps that I have ever seen tropicals survive at. My oscars, D. sexafasciatus, CKF, pleco, 1 Jag, 2 TSN, and 1 RTC all survived, but as of yet have not eaten since I raised the temps back up. THe problem was a freak cold snap that lasted for 2 weeks. The temps outside were as low as 0 degrees F. The temps in my garage were 35 F. This makes the heaters run constantly and they go out quick when they run continously like that.

damn thats a really unfortunate accident...it must be really hard keeping fish in such cold climates...especially with the whole heating issue...it must unload so many problems for u. im just lucky to be living in tropical climate...
