RTG Injured =*( Help plz

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have you used Melafix? Do you have an air pump? I did this when my aro was all bang up. It feel out off my tank (6 feet tall) when i went to bag so i can move him to a quarantine tank. He had two missing scale, tail rip up at several places and his face had scratch on it.
Once he was move to the quarantine tank, I added Melafix and keep the water clean for about a week or so. He wouldn't eat until maybe the fourth day of quarantine. But he slowly recover. Just keep an eye on it and try to to feed it every day. Even a couple of meal worm will help.

No I didnt use melafix or anything. I'm just doing 2 or 3 day WC's and trying to feed him every day but one day he would eat and next day he wouldn't eat. However, he is looking a lot better now the cut above the eye is healing fast just the fins still healing. He's slowly showing himself again swimming up to the front of the tank and then slowly swims back to hide. I will update.

Thanks for help DDragon and everyone!

I hate to say this, but did you check with your friend to see if he was messing with your fish? You mentioned earlier that a friend was supposed to stop by to see it. Did he try to feed it and it jumped out? I have a friend with a 24" jardini that tries to jump out during feed all the time and has jumped out before. My friend knows whats going to happen during feeding time so he prepares for it, but your friend may not know what to expect. he could have jumped out if your friend had opened the lid. I'm not saying this is the case, but it could happen. I just can't imagine that much damage being caused from your fish slamming itself into the glass lid. (My friends 24" jardini actully shattered his glass top before. Just thought i mention that.)

When my friend came over He just sat infront of the tank briefly fo like a few min and didn't really do anything else cause I was with him the whole time. Maybe my rtg was shocked and got frightened by new face? I don't know if that can be a possibility but we both left and when I got home from work my rtg was alll banged up. My mom claims that she heard a loud bang sound and that was it. 1 bang sound. I also can't believe how my rtg can be so banged up from jumping. He's got a cut above his right eye, gill cracked, tail half broken off and damages to both caudal fins. Which only a few of the bones in the middle are broken I think cause I can see some skin or new bone coming out? My rtg is still kind of in shock sometimes eating but he's been swimming more lately so it's all good. Well I hop he heals and becomes that happy rtg again when I first brought him home.

I'm glad that i was wrong. I meant no offense to your friend. I hope that it all works out for you. This whole topic just gets me thinking about what kinds of covering i should be using for my Jardini tank.

Right now I have glass covers but I'm going to go buy plastic acrylic tops soon that will go underneath the glass covers. There is no way an aro can jump through acrylic.
