The street we just moved from was made up of a mix of families - muslim, sri lankan, spanish/ black and us (italian) i swear the sri lankan family was one of the most patriotic people i have ever met. They still carried on all of their religious beliefs but also adopted all of our american traditions , celebrated all of our hollidays even Christmas and were just damn proud to be here. Our muslim neighbors never took part in any american hollidays (4th of july, memorial day or anything else....hahaha one of their kids even told my son that pork is a dirty food.... not trying to judge pr bash them but why move to a country and not accept its traditions
The whole pork thing is a bunch of baloney. It's gotten a whole lot of people through some really rough times so it can't be all that bad lol!

I don't disagree at all that immigrants weren't treated well in the melting pot era and we shouldn't go back to treating them that way now. But I am quite sure that immigrants in those days wanted to be Americans. They believed in the dream and contributed to this country in every way including learning the language and assimilating into the culture. The great thing about the melting pot is that as different generations and people from different walks of life assimilated in, little pieces of those cultures became part of the American way. We stop being a country when we move towards letting people live here without giving a damn what it means to be American.

I agree with your sentiment. I am just saying I think it's a bit different from what made America "great". (in quotations because of trump stuff, anti immigration etc) I agree with this side of the argument, I think it's certainly different from the American melting pot which is why I mentioned it.

The main problem with the voting was people voting for the sole reason of immigration, it's been brainwashing people of the UK now for ages that if we stay in the EU the UK will become full of foreigners, what they fail to realise is that the vast majority of people who come to the UK are not from Europe but from all over the globe , it's been this way in the UK forever lol people will still come EU or not.
The other problem with this vote is people don't even know what the EU is or what it actually means to be in or out of it there just going with what people are saying about imagination.
Two people I spoke to yesterday who voted out didn't have a clue one thought we were no longer a European country , and the other asked me if England were still aloud to play football in the euro competition hahahahahha that's what we're up against people

I think the liberties you guys have gotten in the UK has warped perspective a bit (particularly currency) and like everywhere people are all uninformed. It's like people here voting for the guy with the best tie. I'm not sure how we can expect people who won't inform themselves to vote, but I don't see how we can take the right away lol.

Many cultures were insulted when they first got into it though. Many wouldn't imagine that the Irish faced a deal of prejudice when they came, but everyone did. I think that the situations are different. I think of the "great" America as a melting pot, I think of most modern countries a finished soup where an additonal bad ingredient can ruin the dish. Add in human rights that were not widely respected in those times and I think you have apples to oranges. I confess I'm not nearly educated on the subject, however.

No doubt allot of them were treated like trash, ive heard stories about how italian and irish workers building the brooklyn bridge were treated like animals manye of them were buried in the foundations.

But i do think their is a difference in todays immigration. My emtire family immigrated from Sicily they learned the language, customs, and traditions of their new country heck most never ever went back to even visit. You cant say a bad thing about this country to any of the old timers in my family.

Quite right. Globalists and multiculturalists have forced it down our throats for the last generation or two that if you don't accept these world views you're a bad person or living in the past. There is a difference between being a racist or a bigot and wanting to live side by side with people who share your ideals and will stand united when times get tough. Doesn't matter what skin color a man has but we need to regain our identity here. I don't want to go off the rails with conspiracy theory but it would seem to me that the agenda of those forcing multiculturalism and globalism is that of centralizing power for a class of political elites to hold on to. As long as they keep nations divided into little groups without clear and united agendas, it will be easy for these figures to maintain control.

I dont think its a conspiracy at all just look at how divided our country is now... black/white, straight/***, religious/non religious, cops/citizens

I wont even pretend to know the particulars but i think it was cool that you "the people" got to vote and decide the outcome. I cant see that ever happening here.

I had one of my Jewish clients saying to me the other week when I was undecided what to vote that I had to vote out or all the Polish painters will get my jobs and I'll be out of work lol, he wanted all imagination to stop.
I had to pick him up on a couple of things hahaha firstly Polish and all other eastern European countries have been here for years already yet he still had me an English decorator in his house at the time (so he didn't employ the so called cheap labour of the poles) and that he was Jewish so if everyone had had his attitude towards life that him and his family wouldn't be in the UK at all as one of them if not more imagrated to the UK at some point ;)

I'm not totally convinced that the decision was already made for us and the votes don't count for anything;)

I dont think people know what word rascist even means today. Not liking or agreeing with something does not mean your a racist or one of the dreaded "isms" or "phobic"
