I'll even describe what I feel the problem is in another way. When I look in other sub forums, I don't see the same usernames as I do in the CA/SA forum. I'd be willing to wager that a guapote breeding question would be answer much quicker and have far more repsonses just based on the location of the thread (CA/SA forum vs. Breeding forum). So even though the question is about breeding, which would be the better place for people to get good info?

The same thing goes for other subjects that could be moved into other subforums because it would be a "perceived" better fit somewhere else. My bottom line is when I want to hear expert experience on CA/SA cichlids, I come to the CA/SA forum. I would think others do to. Again, just my opinion, etc..:D

We expect that! You're correct.

None of this is about anything to do with any thread that is intended to teach someone something.

It's about showing off and keeping it out of the places that people go to learn. If the thread that shows fish off becomes informative, then it can can be relocated to the appropriate forum.

Then why did my Five Breeding Pairs thread get moved to the Breeding forum? I guess my point is it's not just threads with pics getting moved to the Media Lounge. It seems to be other threads are being moved other places as well that would be better served here. Besides my thread, there was an Oscar Breeding Questions thread and a Dovii Breeding Project thread moved recently to the Breeding forum when the people that can answer the questions and benefit from the information are here in the CA/SA forum. Again, only my opinion, etc..

That falls into the learning curve and IMO initial surge of posts being moved. There was so much crap (again, for lack of a better term) that needed to be relocated that stuff got missed and some may have been inappropriately moved. Once everyone gets a handle on what each area is intended to be used for it will help. I'll be the last to deny that things were inappropriately relocated, but I'll be the first to stick up for the people who took time out of their own lives to do it. I didn't do jack**** when it comes to moving the threads, but I'll thank the ones that did even if a few got missed.

The only way you'll never make a mistake is to do nothing at all.

Again, do you really see harm in it's intended purpose?

No, no harm. I just wouldn't have moved the three threads I was talking about if it was me, that's all. The Media Lounge is a cool idea. I don't have anything against it at all when used for it's intended purpose. It's "our" own personal Photo Lounge. I just hate to see threads slip into obscurity by being moved to other forums that could end up in good discussion and information here.

I can't remember if I've ever visited the breeding forum or not. I might have clicked it once in the time Ive been here. I'd rather read about breeding of Dovii or other CA/SA's right here.

I just want to say that I fully agree with TF's comment here. I am a new user to MFK and when i want SA/CA info this is the forum I come to. I don't care to go to the otehr forums regarding breeding or ID this fish please because well, most folks aren't going to have the answers that the folks in the SA/Ca forum are going to have and that's mainly because they don't keep those fish.

There are definitely regulars to certain subforums, sucha s this SA/CA subforum and I have noticed that in the 2-3 months I have lurked around here. I understand the media change and I agree "look at my fish !!11!" threads are annoying when I am looking for info, but like you said Rally, it seems that there is a learning curve involved in what should be modded or not, hence my comment earlier. Threads with pics seemed to be moved willy nilly whether they were or not and that seems to discourage coversation on a subject as a thread is there one day and then gone the next.

I think a better idea would be to have various subforums under the main subforums. Such as, instead of having 1 general breeding subforum, create subforums for each family/species subforum so that SA/CA breeders could talk about their breeding, and African cichlid owners could discuss their breeders and techniques etc. Moving all breeding info to one breeding info makes it a pain in the butt to have to sift through various threads to finally come on to a species in the family of SA/CA. Keeping in to the SA/CA section makes it so that I know I can at least find the info without having to sift through a bunch of otehr family types that I have no interest in.

That may create more upkeep, I'm not sure, but if the goal is to make things easier to locate then that seems to me like it'd be a btter way of doing it. I must say, I certainly didn't mind seeing the large picture threads being updated occassionally with someones new find, such as the earth eaters pic thread. That was very informative for me as it had tons of info with tons of pics in it. Now I have to make a mental note to check the media section because it's not something I had grown accustomed to doing. I may get to the point where I check it as often as I do the SA/CA forum but I likely won't since it doesn't contain the info I generally want or need which at the same time means I won't randomly click on a pic thread and I'll misout seeing some cool fish recently picked up.

I've really wanted to comment on this for awhile now so I am very glad this has been brought up. it seemed like every otehr thread or post I have seen had been locked or deleted so I assumed the subject was taboo.

This is part of what might happen as the site grows. It has grown so fast that it's hard to keep ahead of it. As sections grow they'll evolve.

I think it's a lot of to do about nothing. People are going to go to where they are familiar. I make more photo posts so I used to only go to he Photo and the CA/SA section. I've never been to the breeding forum or the majority of the others. Then this move to the Media Lounge. Like I said, most of my posts are photos...99.9% are CA/SA cichlids. Some of them I have something to say about the fish, breeding, photography, collecting, etc. Some I just post new photos of the fish.

Personally if it's a CA/SA cichlid topic...no matter what, it should just be left in the general CA/SA forum. People have a choice on what they view. They either open or not. What's the harm? Either that or move anything with a photo to the photo gallery. No second guessing and second opinion on the flavor of the topic.

Whatever. It's not my ball or bat. I just hope we can all play the same game.

videos and photos go in SA/CA media lounge ... everything else in this section..
