Sad little lima... :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The two eight inchers I have currently are very similar to yours, they sit and hover, mostly apart and show no interest in me or the other fish, but this is what I would class as natural for them anything up to a foot long. My >20” one is different again and comes to inspect my underwater camera when I use it in the pond.

Ah, ok, he just seemed unhappy and like there was no difference between him being in a small tank with pacu or in a larger tank by himself, aside from him not being extremely skinny, so I just wanna make sure he's ok

You are making good observations and a commendable job. Keep observing and periodically reporting differences or the lack thereof. We learn from you and each contributor as much as we try to help you.

Here is the aforementioned boy!! I just did a water change, cuz the driftwood was leaking so much tannins!! He's skinny right now but it's his feed day today!!

Why did you remove the LSN from the tank?

I am dubious it will feed after having been removed from the tank and then reintroduced. That's too much stress usually.

I usually fill up the tank with water before adding the water conditioner because I use a hose to drain and fill the tank, and I didn't want to expose him to chlorine and stuff :(. And yeah, he probably won't eat until later

When doing water changes, on refilling add the declorinator in the area your fresh water is flowing into the tank. It's perfectly fine for the fish. Some do all upfront some split it 50% at the beginning 50% mid way refilled.20210316_170045.jpg
He's gotten water changes every three days for the last three years doing all upfront method.

Ohhhhh, ok!! I'll try that next time!! I'm always super cautious with making sure the water is good for my fish, I do a water test every 2 days

This is not how you do a water change. You don't take out the fish. It stresses the living lights out of them. No-no.

If you are that worried, you can pretreat the incoming water in a clean tub, bucket, etc. with a water conditioner, then pour in the tank.

Or rather do as Jex says - all or almost all fish keepers on city water do it that way.

By pouring chlorinated water into your tank, you are killing the beneficial bacteria inside your tank and can cause an uncycling, mini or macro, depends on the set up. This is a no-no.
