This is not how you do a water change. You don't take out the fish. It stresses the living lights out of them. No-no.

If you are that worried, you can pretreat the incoming water in a clean tub, bucket, etc. with a water conditioner, then pour in the tank.

Or rather do as Jex says - all or almost all fish keepers on city water do it that way.

By pouring chlorinated water into your tank, you are killing the beneficial bacteria inside your tank and can cause an uncycling, mini or macro, depends on the set up. This is a no-no.
Ohhhh, ok, I'm sorry, I'm new to the whole "big tank" setup, so I normally use a 5 gallon bucket for my other tanks and dechlorinate the water as I go. Thank you for the advice!! I will definitely use this method from now on!!
