saltwater newbie attempting a 55 gallon reef

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bet they hitchhiked on the new corals I just got. I should be dipping new corals to avoid these situations :duh:

Unfortunately I have no QT tank yet. I guess I could put the zoas in my fuge but there isn't a strong enough light in there for them. I'm hoping I caught this early enough that they didn't get a chance to lay any eggs yet.

I finally got around to creating a design in Sketchup for a DIY stand cover. Check out the attached pics and tell me what you think. All the measurements are correct and to scale so it should be an accurate representation of what it will look like. The rectangle designs on the fronts of the doors will probably change depending on what kind of pre-cut shapes are available. I don't have much carpentry experience so putting this together might turn out to be a bit of a challenge for me, but I'm up for it.

Looks like the front of the stand will look nice when it's done...

Wow, this thread has so many tips, tricks, and information i can hardly process it all.
You have a awesome tank my friend. I'm sure i will be reading this thread many times to get a little more comfortable with saltwater before i start my 80g sw this weekend. I'm picking it up from a C-lister for $100 complete!!!. not to sure about the coral though seems to be a LOT of work. but i am happy to see that a newbie can jump in to a tank like this and get SOO much advise and direction from others. i will be picking brains often when i start mine. good luck and keep it comin'.
