I have four polys in a tank with a sand substrate and the plants and driftwood are constantly covered in sand which the polys are constantly kicking up. Does anyone else have this issue with polys? The sand I have is particularly fine. I was wondering if moving to something like garnet sand would be better.

Is the sand pfs (pool filter sand) or lfs purchased ?

Lfs stuff is very light and wouldnt last a day with my fish lol.

I havr garnet sand and its definitly heavier than any other sand ive used but it still gets kicked up pretty good. Some.of my rocks still get covered in it. Isnt a big deal as long as its not getting sucked into the filters

Can you post a pic of the mess. Mayne we can tell ya if its normal or excessive

I'm not sure how much these photos will help. I'm sorry for the terrible quality but for a few reasons they were the best I could get.

The tank has 2 p. ornatipinnis, 1 p. delhezi and 1 p. weeksii

The sand was bought from a fish shop and is very fine, finer than caster sugar I would say.

I think that kind of sand is too fine and too light.
For sure even a small poly can toss those sand up.
Maybe changing to a bigger grain will help.
