Sand or pea gravel?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Excellent. Thanks. :)

I found pool filter and for pretty cheap at a pool store (go figure LOL) down the street, but the only two places I found pea gravel offer it really cheap, but only offer it by the half ton! I definitely don't need anywhere near that much.

Pool filter sand*

I switched from play sand this weekend to pool filter sand! Should have done this ages and ages ago!!

Play sand was just too white/bright for my liking and showed up all the dirt it was also so fine any digging would leave the particles in suspension.

I siphoned all the play sand out, filled the tank back up with water and dumped the PFS in unwashed. It all sank straight to the bottom and just waiting for the clouidiness to clear.

Looks so much more natural, I love it so far!

Fantastic! I hope my experience goes just as well. :)

I just picked up 3 - 50 pound bags from Leslie's pool supplies for $10 a bag.

I just recently added fine pea gravel and course pea gravel to my Pfs and I like it. Didn't cost a dime ;)

are they RBP's? Can you keep them with Clown Loach?

As per our inbox discussion I'm getting 8 Clown loach on Wednesday but then need to look at the main fish.

RBP's could be good

Rbp can mean red belly Piranha or red belly pacu, in my case Piranha, which, kill anything and everything, even eachother, I can't keep anything in there without expecting it to die. Some people get lucky with plecos, crayfish, dithers etc. But its a gamble. If you do a shoal piranhas my advice is keep them a species only tank!

There are a lot of cool fish you can add, check out the cichlids section for various kinds! I'm really only knowledgeable about Piranha, however I have exp with basic community but no pro.

My issue isn't the price, but the quantity. LOL Smallest amount I have found for sale is a half ton! It was $50 per half ton and I might just pay that if I can find another use for the other 850 pounds of pea gravel! LOL
