Can you use the play sand and pool sand for saltwater or does it only have to be for fresh?

Which is better spectraquartz or ceramaquartz? I am looking at these two over pricey LFS black sands or black diamond/beauty coal slag which might have sharper grains.

I got play sand in my 55 long and its pretty good but does compact quite a lot which seems to trap quite a lot of bubbles or gasses from escsping so I have to give it a little stir up from time to time.

In my 55 tall I have soft building sand. Got it from the local builders suppliers for about £5 a bag. It's slightly coarser than play sand and doesn't compact the same. Fish don't care which they all love burrowing around and picking bits out of it after feeding.

Had to wash that soft sand a lot more than I did play sand. Took nearly 2 hours to get the water to run clear.

Picked it up at Leslie's for about 15 bucks for the 50lb bag.

It required a bit of rinsing (15mins) but looks great and is super easy to work with. Its kind of like tiny gravel, much heavier than I thought it would be.
