Another brand to look for would be the HTH pool filter sand. I haven't seen it used specifically in aquaria, but in the bag it looks very similar to Leslie's white PFS.

I have always used Estes' Marine Sand (Ultra Reef). It is inert, very uniform in size, and you get color options. I have never had any of the problems that other sands can cause. It is not as cheap as pool filter sand, but I think is worth the extra and still only runs about as much as gravel.

some places still have some ColorQuartz remaining in stock (the dealer near me does). Unfortunately, you can't search for dealers on the 3M website anymore, so if you don't already know who carries/carried it near you or don't know anyone that does, good luck with that.

I am curious about the ^ though. You got pics bro? It's refreshing to find another that doesn't cheap out. Is it white and heavy and inert? < seems to be my sand "unicorn" lolz.. I would think the SW sands are all coral based oand not PH inert. Estes Ultra Reef is silica based?

I'm with Paul, bummed about the colorquartz too, can't find it on the OR/WA border.. :(

i used play sand but you have to rinse it like really really good but my Fish Love Sand so much more than the cheap crap gravel

I got a 50 lb bag of play sand (quickcrete), for like $2.83 at home depot.

:iagree: I bought this sand for my 240 gallon and besides a little dirt (that a few water change vacs took care of, my Motoro stingray is thriving in it with no abrasions on his little underside.

Ive got playsand and hate it. Its to fine and compacts to easy. I will be using pool filter sand from pinchapenny, dont think there are any leslie pool supply chains around here, on my new tank
